    Door seals for convertible

    Hi,
I've been trying to make my '91 318i convertible weather tight. The door seals (rubber seal with fur strip, mount to chassis and pillar) are not available new. All used ones (Ebay) seem to have rotted rubber as bad as mine. Has anyone pieced in generic weather seal or bough sedan versions and cut them to fit? Honks me off that they are available for sedans but not verts! Restoration shops must face this...but how?

I went to the Pelican site and I'm pretty sure we're not talking the same part so I'm uploading a photo with the gasket delineated in red.
Let me know what you think for availability.

I think this is the number you want 51711876151 & ...52. You will not like the price $350 per door. I think look at a salvage yard.

Yup those dealer prices are insane on these kind of things. I also was in need and dealer quoted me $320 with a shop discount and no taxes. Soooo off to the u-pull it i went. Cost me $8. Was a bit of a pain to find but eventually i found a good one.

Thanks Aaverhulst; unfortunately (or maybe fortunately at those prices!) those pns are for a coupe not a cabrio. I'll keep trying salvage yards but the rubber is often rotten. Or maybe generic and piece it in.

Yeah, may be hard to find for cabrio. Seems to me, any coupe door may work as you don't need as much for cabrio, since none needed at top and at side window. So you are right, you may have to cut and fit.

Though these prices seem high consider how long the original rubber lasted. I made the mistake and cheaped out and bought Uro door seals for a Mercedes project and though they were much less expensive they were absolute garbage.
