So, my 2006 325Ci with 134,000 miles on it, has never had the auto transmission serviced. I was thinking of changing the fluid & filters, but I know some recommend that you not do this if it has never been done on a high mileage car. Any opinions on this out there? Should I do it, or just write it off since it was neglected too long? At this time, the transmission seems to work fine.
Just do it!! 134k isn’t that high of mileage.

Do it, do it professionally, and never question it again.
You should definitely change the tranny fluid along with the filter, bolts and gasket. Your car will last forever, I did mine and it lasted forever. I had 382,000 miles and sold the car.
High Mileage 325,xxx and counting...

Thanks for the input, and bumping your original thread! Now I feel confident and ready to do this, now the only problem is I noticed my gear selector shaft seal is leaking, so that needs replacing also. Probably have to lower, or even remove the trans entirely to deal with that...
BMW...GENERAL MOTORS 5 speed auto.... 2000-2005...325xi wagons....DO NOT CHANGE your factory TRANSMISSION FLUID....No atf for this BMW is available. Dexron 6 kills this transmission when used as a last resort.
Generalizations like that are counter productive to helping people, especially when its not true.
ETL is no longer made but there are plenty of ETL rated replacement fluids out there with a very similar chemical profile. You don't have to stick to dex6. You can use castrol multi vehicle import atf as well as valvoline maxlife atf and redline d4. Or you can use dex6. Thats what the dealer uses and what GM recommends.
Perfect time to change it, RedLine D4 ATF is what we recommend and use in our service kits (LINK).

Agree, RedLine is an excellent upgrade fluid!
