Rear door edge guard placement E46

The factory edge guards on my rear doors melted off a couple of years ago. I live in the Deep South with extreme heat and humidity.

Lately I am experiencing a lot of wind noise from the rear of the car and have ordered replacement trim and some Gummi Pflege. There is still some adhesive on the doors but I am not sure of the exact positioning of the new trim.

Will someone please post a picture of the factory trim on their car so that I can be sure to install the new edge correctly? Also, any suggestions on the best adhesive remover to use to clean up the edge before I install the new trim?

This trim was not there from the factory. It was either:

a. aftermarket transparent protection film.
b. aftermarket plastic stick on "edge guard" found at any auto store.

Goo Gone with a microfiber towel would be safe to use on paint - both also could be found at any local auto store.

That trim has nothing to do with the noise you are experiencing. Inspect your glass and make sure it slides up all the way. Also, inspect your rubber sealing that goes around the perimeter of the door. It is also possible that the car was in the accident at some point and the door is not aligned properly where meets the body creating less than ideal seal.

One owner car, no accidents. Glass is good, door seals are a bit dry, I ordered Gummi Pflege for this. I did see some posts regarding wind noise and door trim for the E46. Chrome trim seems to be the dealer recommended fix, according to several threads, but the trim on the front doors is black, so that is what I ordered. The trim was on the car when I bought it. Perhaps the dealer installed this?

Off topic but I have read gummi pfledge has silicone in it which is bad for rubber. Maybe search google a bit on that one before you use it.

Thanks for the reply but there is not any silicone in the new formula (and may never have been). The ingredient methylisothiazolinone is often confused as a form of silicone but it is a ketone-based preservative.


The current ingredients per the label are; <5% non-ionic surfactants, perfume (limonene), preservation agents (methylisothiazolinone).

Very simple formula and it works like a charm. I got mine on Amazon.
