Had to bite the bullet and pay £360 for a diagnostic... which involves the pro tech opening up the timing case as it's leaking out lots of oil and the tech said my bearings sounded fine and he revved my car to like 3.5k a few times. He suspects there's something loose inside the timing case or something wrong in there as that's where he suspects the noise is coming from -_- on the upside though. He is a proper real motorsports mechanic tech and he is a track instructor and I thought I was gods gift to racing and driving until this guy made me feel like I haven't even got a drivers license......

Sigh....a "newly rebuilt" engine that has "something loose inside the timing case", and "leaks lots of oil". Crap, I'm sorry this is all happening to you.

I'm trying to avoid it as much as I can.. it's wearing my pockets out at an alarming rate!!! On the good side of things Abel's self tuned DME arrived at Heathrow Airport today.

as soon as I sort this piece of sugar out, I will put another couple of thousand miles on, fit the Porsche 996 front brakes, sort the ABS out and match some rear brakes to my setup. Service it using 5w50 with antifriction additive and take it to Brands Hatch Race Track and show everyone how quick I'll lap them hahahahahahahahahhahaha

Okay, some news... Mr Motorsport had a look at my car and discovered that the crankshaft pulley was very very loose and he tightened it up and said he didn't have much time to do my timing case leak now.. sooo yeah. He also said my 5 month old ebay coilovers + my brakes are a death trap and perfect recipe for disaster so I'm gonna lay off the power now and sort that out and take it on a track!!!!

eeNow time to upgrade the brakes to 4 pot calipers, get proper suspension and upgrade the entire cooling system to a M3 evo euro s50b32 one as it is self bleeding and much larger better for cooling and reliablility

Mate, there is no "self bleeding" cooling system before BMW installed the electric water pump. Is that system easier to bleed? Why yes, because the reservoir is above the bleed screw.

The S50B32 one is! As it has a remote expansion tank elsewhere rather then the traditional radiator expansion tank!

On the Upside Recieved the BBTB at 68.5mm opposed to the stock 64mm, Teamed with Abels ECU Pending E34 540i 3.5" HFM MAF tomorrow morning. Hopefully have the car back by afternoon tomorrow and I will let you guys know the results on the butt dyno after I take a big booty girl for an accurate reading

After all is done, I'm gonna save up money and do a valvetrain and head upgrade. Gonna run solid lifters, bigger valves head work port and polished on both sides with a custom Manifold and 272s dbilas cams, and exhuast ports ported and polished matched to my Euro s50b32 headers. Guy says I should gain around 40-50 horsepower there.. sounds amazing right 310-320 bhp from a m52

What I take from all your posts is,
you sure seem to be in a rush for project completion,
but no emphasis on an accurate, quality installation!
That is either your preference-OR-your mechanics!!
Do as you will, but for me - QUALITY IS #1!!!
    Good luck with your build*

Sorry, I didn't quite understand what you mean!

My main goal is reliability right now, then safety and then back to the power!

and I think it's just that I like to update as I go along for anyone who cares.
this thread started out as askinrg for help in reviving my old seized engine, to an engine swap then a rebuild then help again and now updates looool pretty messed up right

ok, time out. really? reliability first, then safety, and then power?
come on, man. your rebuild lasted - what, a week? now, you are rebuilding again and bolting all this stuff onto the car, messing with the cooling system, the brakes, and the computer? no knock against abel, i'd trust him with any of my cars - i'm just saying - to achieve reliability you reduce the mods and variables - not increase them.

self bleeding cooling system - need an electric water pump to truly have one of those....

My rebuild lasted a week because the previous plonker didn't tighten the crank pulley bolt.. engines fine cars and I'd like to believe it's reliable too.

its only a m52 with s52 cams, euro s50 headers and a 3.0 crank, m50 Manifold, bigbore throttle body and a 3.5" Intake system for now.. the drifters who I know run their car on limiter all day long without even a viscous fan. Their solution is e36 m3 evo radiator with a m3 evo expansion tank or a 325 tds one as they've all said is self bleeding and bigger, with the associated silicone bends and a lower temp alloy thermostat with housing and a metal impeller waterpump. The run the air on aux fan for cooling because they replace the temp switch with one from a 316/318i not sure which one, so the aux fan doubles up as a radiator fan when the radiator temps rise.. people run the fan delete mod all over the US in places which I believe are much warmer then the UK, If I'm not mistaken Abel has done this mod too.

i can swear to god the euro S50b32 cooling system is self bleeding as I've read everywhere and having a M3 of my own from memory tells me it is self bleeding.

    oh geez.

    anyway.

a self bleeding system can bleed itself - ie, a powered water pump, etc. as dworthy said - this setup is easier to bleed because of the location of the expansion tank, etc.

i've already expressed the other items many, many times - no need to repeat them here.

Not trying to argue, or offend anyone!
will pop by my rusty ol m3 when I find the time to try and locate the bleed screw lol don't think I've ever noticed it.

Now I need to fix the timing case leak then move to the brakes and suspension..
    long story short
bought the car in December and got ripped off basically.. abs doesn't work and I don't know why... scan the computer with INPA and Snap on BMW software and also Launch and nothing comes back for ABS. The light isn't on and the bulb for traction control and ABS was missing... I put in new bulbs the abs still doesn't light up and the brakes still lock but the traction control light is on which I believe is because PO deleted the traction control throttle body without putting in a resistor.. so my final conclusion is someone's coded ABS out of the DME and I shall find out tomorrow when I plug in Abels Tuned DME. The pads are knackered and so I will temporarily replace the pads all around with some textars, while I sort out the Brake kit upgrade (Porsche 996 4 pot brembo's up front with braided lines, 330ci rear brake conversion with braided lines too, new brake fluid)

suspension - bought the car with 2 week old Pro sport ebay coilovers that are "tuv" approved but they ride like crap and there's literally no dampening but hey they say you get what you pay for so I will be upgrading these to HSD Monopro's with 16 way adjustment including caster and camber topmounts.
