You have a very good point, my friend. Sometimes it's hard to see the forest for the trees.....

I've decided to go back to reliability by ditching the longer stroke in favour for the shorter stock crank. After speaking to Bruno today and spending my whole day at his workshop, he told me i could try again with the stroker build and use the m54 crank again but he wouldn't trust it as the longer stroke creates problems at high rpm and the piston/conrod/crank ratio is not good enough for reliability. He said the best possible way would be to go stock and the best setup/solution for me to be reliable with power is to use the stock crank with 140mm conrods opposed to the stock 135mm and use custom pistons at 86mm although he could get 87mm but said that would be risky and taking too much meat off the block. So 86mm with the stock crank would get me back to a 3.0L and he said the pistons would be high compression meaning I'm going from 10:2:1 to 11:5:1 or even 12 C/R but would need new spark plugs for high compression and only to run V Power fuel only! He said this was the most reliable way after stock and he told me not to abuse the car unnecessarily on every road. And if I'm going to rev the motor beyond 7k to get updated valve springs.

on the other hand I picked up the 318i 1991 sedan E36 today.. I must admit it drives better then my coupe LOL feels so smooth and comfortable!!!!!

Oh and he confirmed on what Chris said... I would need ITB's to make more power after reaching 290-300bhp

I don't know if it's the lack of sleep or my insanity or abit of both... loooooool

i feel like going for the record of fastest N/A M52 in the world.. the current fastest one is on YouTube at 330bhp in Romania he's a dragster. But the difference between me and him would be displacement.. I will have 3.0 200cc's ahead. Now that sounds like an expensive Weekend car to me haha who knows I just feel like it. maybe I wake up tomorrow and decide to part out the car . Any ideas for most Power out of an N/A M52 that's steerable?

    Oh boy. Get some sleep.

And your focus is wrong. It was the (lack of) quality of the build job that made that engine unreliable, not as much as the bore/stroke and components that were chosen.

Oil leaks, overheating, loose crank pulley, and timing chain rattles after a 'rebuild' are not reassuring at all. I would be asking for money back.

Advice (to be taken or ignored): take a break from it for a while, save up money, don't dive head first into something without putting serious planning into. Never buy something you cannot afford to pay off fully, twice.

Really appreciate it! Oh the 328 has gone off to storage! It's declared off road now. I have nowhere near 10% of what the build will cost at the moment but what I do have is my new 27 year old Valentine!!! IMG_6388.PNG

Bought for 200 318i auto Sedan 1991 with 117k miles no known history.. I just hope the timing belt doesn't crap on me.. seeing as Darin told me I'd have to pull the motor to replace then said he was joking but that's got me worried lol.. well hey now I got a beater/daily to start working and get back on my feet.. now Im going to work and save money and invest slowly slowly in the coupe. I'm not gonna throw all my money at the car anymore and live off pot noodles. For every 1000 I make I'm gonna save 150-200 for the coupe. This build would be proper and I will invest a lot of time researching and asking around, and buying proper quality parts and not just any cheap gasket/seal or things off eBay. And it's being put together by someone who knows what they actually are doing this time!

its just not worth me doing this to myself anymore and every time I drive the coupe something goes wrong.. this 318 has no power and I think is teaching me to drive more sensibly because I haven't even tried Togo over 40mph all day haha!

i have went through all the advise given by you guys, and I thank every single one of you for the help/input/advise and opinions! I'm going to put them all to use (about time ayy)

get my self back on my feet with a reliable stock daily
    research the build
save up for it and take my time and not rush it
take my stock 318i on the track and learn how to drive a slow car fast (shadowpuck)
progress with my life and slowly start the build when I'm financially stable because if something goes wrong I won't be 6ft under like last week out of pocket and out of car.

    Seriously Wadi,
the common sense approach many of us have previously posted here,
along with the new posts from Abel, are the best advice we can give.
You are free to follow your own path, but as they say "live and learn".

I appreciate all the input and advise and I know you guys all care about me and are looking out for me thank you so much! I think the coupe is retiring as a daily so I won't really count on it as a reliable car but I do want some reliability in it. I mean I'm looking to finance/lease a new car sometime down the line soon and I want the coupe to just be a weekend/road legal track car/toy and I'm not going to just dump all my money at it anymore but it sounds like a fun idea to build a really fast N/A car and I haven't even taken the idea seriously yet I'm just toying about with the idea and seeing if it would even come into production haha. And I do understand that if I ever build this m52 that it wont ever be a daily car again due to the hairy cams and everything that's going to be happening to it.

even Bruno confirmed to me on Chris's opinion that with modifying a car you will lose a lot of reliability to it with that said he's m44b19 with a s42 specced built head and his stage 5 headwork on stock bottom end pistons/rods and crank apart from king race bearings happily revs to 8400 and throws out 240 bhp from a 1.9 4pot engine and ever since his built it it's never broken down for the 40k miles he's put on it. He told me how a Engine is prepared and put together plays a crucial part on reliability as my recent Rebuild seemed like a bodged job and the engine was vibrating and not balanced properly he said just because its worked out that reliable for him I shouldn't rev my engine in excess of 7500-7800 just to be on the safe side because he said if something goes wrong with his build he doesn't pay labour but I will. (Btw that's with solid lifters, bigger valves, updated valve springs with multi angle cuts, port and polished basically a fully built race head

Since the NA build did not work out, the OP has decided on a turbo build. I am not very confident about his likelihood of success in the new project.

No. As I stated on post #179 I'm just toying around with idea's and possibilities, I haven't decided anything other then to work on other things before I even think about starting a building car. Jheeez I didn't know it was illegal to ask or make threads.

Woaaah why don't you just come and live my life for me eh?
