Hi folks,
The passenger side mirror on our 2006 530xi is moving left/right, but not up down. Does anyone know if I can test/replace the motors without replacing the entire mirror?
Thanks.

Well, I did a bunch of reading through manuals and it turns out the motor assembly is available through both BMW new (about $200), but used motor units can be had on ebay for around $80 delivered. Part number is 67136919497, and it can be installed really easy. You just pop off the outside mirror, unplug the defroster and lcd wires, then set the mirror aside. Next you remove the bolt in the center with a torx driver, and the motor pops straight out. With the motor unit out, you can pop off the mirror cover from the inside, and then it all assembles really quick.
Super simple, and good to know it can be done without removing the complete mirror.

Before buying a new motor you should confirm that the control switch is working properly.
That is good advice George. Since left mirror worked fine, but right mirror only moved left/right, I took the gamble it was the motor. Funny thing is that I tore apart the old assembly and the motors moved when I applied power directly to the pins. My guess is that the sensor in the motor assembly was bad.
