Hello! I did native install on IBM T30 which includes DIS v57, SSS Progman v32 and TIS (3.1.4 if I remember) with Ghost image from 12 DVDs. Problem is now I can't get DIS to recognize a car no matter what. Note that I had previously installed only native DIS v57 as per this forums tutorial (can't thank you enough for this guys) and worked great. Diag head and cables are original. Self-test says LAN communication OK and Diagnostic head NOT but it still appears as "free diagnostic head" and I can connect to it and test connection and it confirms good connection. So far I've tried E46 318Ci and E46 325i. Any ideas? Maybe faulty cables?
Have you setup your IP address under TP/IP in Windows and in EDIABAS.ini?

Well, I did clean reinstall with only DIS v57 as per this forums tutorial, recovered HDD with Acronis True Image that has proven to work .tib image of DIS/SSS and failed to make it work both times. Also dissasembled IBM T30 to inspect PCB and Ethernet port to find possible damage with no success. Now I suspect it has to do with IP addresses because few months back, everything was working fine and then I decided to add Progman v32 and that's when things got bad. Any experience on changing and configuring IP addresses in UNIX?

Well, after taking a break for a month or so, I finally tried it this time using 20pin under the bonnet socket and it worked like a charm! That meant something was wrong with OBD2 cable, so I found wiring diagrams for it and disassembled it and check the continuity and everything was correct. No ideas for now, maybe check the multiplexer?
E36's are not OBD2 compliant.
I tried it on friends 735i '98 I believe and not on my E36
If you are using a 20pin round to 16pin OBD adapter cable, make sure that there is a connection between pin 16 on the round end and pin 1 on the OBD end of the cable. This detects the ignition signal and DIS will not auto-detect the car without an ignition signal.
I'm using this one which is 21 pin

I have not seen this type of cable used with any of the conventional BMW diagnostic interfaces (i.e. ADS, OBD, VagCom, K+DCAN or INPA Compatible OBD).
It's a part of GT1 that dealerships were using
So you are using DIS v57 installed natively (i.e. no VMWare network or Windows OS, just DIS installed on a UNIX OS) with a Siemens yellow DK head?
