    2012 x6 4.4 Dinan stage 1 chip

This is actually pretty impressive stuff dinan has done, does anyone have any experience on the 8 cylinder engine?

Dinan boasts taking hp up almost 95 hp to almost 500 and similar boost to torque.

My initial impetus for getting a software / chip was due to "throttle lag" which I assumed was turbo lag, but then I started noticing it mostly at stop signs. The car would have a delayed jerky response but hardly noticeable. I'd say .02 seconds where you could tell there isn't a direct connection to the throttle body.

Obv in nyc traffic this became quite annoying, not sure if anyone knows what I'm talking about...

LOLOL. All I can add is that our X6 3.5 also has this terrible response.

stage 2 done! wasnt cheap but for a 95 hp add and similar torque its just too tempting. My initial impression is that the car has smoother and more intuitive power band. i was hoping it would resolve the lag issue off of a stop. jury is still out on this (tho i do think its better but still not as good as previous bmws). I am not sure my butt dyno notices anything besides a placebo, bc this car had 400hp to start with so its hard to say i can notice the difference with 500hp car. i certainly think i can, and the first tank of gas went by at 15mpg!!! so im definitely driving it harder (im going to keep an eye on this bc according to dinan the gas mileage should improve)

i will say that on the highway at almost any speed there is more than enough powder to do anything. no regrets yet other than my gas mileage
on a side note the CPU estimated my gas mileage at 18.5 over my last trip of 70% highway. thats a pretty big discrepancy vs calculated at the pump of ~15.5

100 horsies isn't something you don't notice, so I'm sure your buttometer isn't lying to you. The lag thing is indeed ridiculous on any +$60k vehicle. Why is it that Hyundai can overcome any such lag, yet BMW can't?

So now it's been a few weeks with the car. Kinda regretting the upgrade. Gas mileage has been crushed and on a highway pass I got reduced power mode. The code clears when you restart the car and has been diagnosed as a bad coil, which is also possibly a cause for the bad gas mileage but I doubt it bc the coil only seems to be failing under hard load.

So while the coil is a cheap easy fix its emblematic of the fact that I think the upgrade is throwing a lot of force on parts that may not be able to handle it.

Once I change the coil I'll see, so far the gas mileage at the pump is 3 mpg lower than the CPU estimate

I had a bad coil also (but a X5 2012 4.4L). My 335i also would wreck a coil. Also change all your plugs. That fixed the limp mode and misfire issue on my 4.4L. I wouldn't say it's a chipping issue.

On the highway I average 15mpg- closer to 14 with a lead foot. In the city it's more like 13... this is stock in down to about -40 - -30F winter.

My digital mpg calculator often seems to be off, especially in the city as well. It says I sit at 13mpg but I feel it is more like 12.

Otherwise so you can vouch that the Dinan's boasts are legit? I was thinking of getting the ESS or JB4 unit.

at this point its hard to know if the dinan has made a difference - the car was super powerful to begin with. i guess the only way to know is to find open stretch and do a few 0-60 runs and see if the times are faster than reported stock number.

im not sure i would do it again, since i cant really tell the difference other than the gas she drinks 17-18 highway!!!!
