    1) Oil Pump - So, we are swapping in the M70 oil pump. Is it true that we need to pull the entire lower timing assembly in order to swap out the oil pump chain? The sprocket on the M70 pump is quite a bit different than the M73 sprocket, so it looks like we need to tear down a little deeper to get to the pump chain.

    2) The PO of my 70k mile M73 appears to have sheared off one of the water pump bolts and decided to grind it off. So I am looking for a reasonably priced used part # 11141702169

    3) For the exhaust manifolds, when you say, "Front M73 flanges cut and welded onto the M70 manifolds", you are talking about the flanges that connect to the M70 down pipes correct or are you referring to the flanges from the manifold to the head? I just want to make sure I am giving the shop the correct guidance.

    4) Are you running the standard M70 spark plugs? Still running the stock coils, but there will be higher compression obviously, so want to put the right plugs in.

    5) How do we connect on the tune?

I was excited to see the great progress Tyler and crew have made. Both engines are pretty torn down. A couple of minor issues with the M73, but overall looks much better than my tired M70.
    1) You need to change the lower timing cover and upper oil pan, I believe we did have to remove timing chain sprocket to install M70 oil pan and re time the engine. Gives you a chance to change upper cover seals and apply reinzosil everywhere.

    2) https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-7-serie...QAAOSwVA5aDD-J

    3) Sorry I did not explain correctly the first time, made a little drawing, M70 manifolds bolt up where indicated, then on the M73 sides M73 flanges need to be cut very cleanly and welded onto the M70 manifold flanges (do not cut off the m70 flange), do not bugger up the m73 flange as it will be mated to the head and you will have exhaust leak. If you wanna send the manifolds to us we can do this very precisely for you while the engine is being put together.

    4) Running BRK6EK NGK. (coils are M70)

    5) Tune... well not 100% complete yet, its running pretty well and high throttle map is good, need to clean up the idle and mid maps still, going back to dyno. Should be ready to purchase by the time you finish, I just send you the chips.

@Dragon - question on the upper oil pan. It appears that there are two bolt holes in the back of the M70 pan with no existing holes on the M73 block. Did you see that too?

We struggled a bit with the oil pump bolts and getting things aligned, but looks like we are good to go.

The valve stem seals were crumbling so glad we swapped those out too. Was way easier with the heads off any way.

We are getting close to putting the drive train back in. How are we looking on the tune / chips? Let me know if we need to connect off forum, but we may be a week out from getting her back together. Thanks!!

Dragon or anyone else who has accomplished this swap. Did you have any problems with the AC / Water Pump belt tensioner on the M73?

We seem to be having some problems with it staying off the AC compressor. The M70 compressor bracket doesn’t seem to fit, so just working on solution.

I never had any issues on any of the engines I've built. But I'm always using the M70 oil pans due to ASC+T.

Thanks Wolf. Just to confirm, you used the M70 pulley and tensioner?

We did use the M70 upper and lower oil pans and M70 lower timing case.

We are in the home stretch. Engine turn over, building oil pressure and seems very smooth. Just need to correct this tensioner issue.

Really excited to get some updates on the various projects in the works here in the thread. Looking at a late Q1 project myself and my biggest question revolves around chips. Running the Wokke V2 M70 chips now, but wondered if someone has something that will be available for the straight M73 swap to get things dialed up a bit-

Was just thinking about your conversion adventure the other day. Very interested in experiencing this first hand. Have you acquired any bits yet?

No bits yet - will need to go through a shop anyway - no room at my house - figured the shop might have additional lines to p/u some of the parts
