Impossible to find fog lights for E24s?

    Hey folks,

So I've got an '85 635. Been trying for a while to get new fogs for them. The other day, I ordered these:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-e...Q5fAccessories

In addition to being expensive as hell, they're far too short. 140mm or 5.51 inches, there was a large gap on either side of the lens housing. And yet, right there, it says they fit my 1985 635CSi. What's up with this? Has anyone been able to secure the wider kinds that seem to be infinitely elusive?

Also, RealOEM doesn't have the part number, so it's especially hard to find.

I ordered these from Schmiedmann in Denmark.
    http://www.schmiedmann.com/6_series/.../page1.htm#317

Much cheaper for me than buying here locally in Oz, not sure if the same applies to you, but they're a perfect fit in my air dam.

I can measure the width of my fogs if you like to see to see if these lenses will fit your car?

Its strange that you've got a gap on either side. You've got the metal frame that surrounds the front of the lens when it's mounted?

Ellis, if you could measure them, that'd be great. I'm beginning to think I've got a weird aftermarket air dam, but have no proof that says so.

Here are the pictures I took. I really don't have to tell you which fog lights have the 260,000 miles and which ones are new :P

    So odd, so sad. ARG.

I got a set of them last year from my local BMW stealer. After looking around, I believe that was my only option and yes I paid too much. Hella pn is 1NB 960 501-00 and the dealer label is 63 12 1 458 159.

    Here's mine.

They're 3 inches high and just over 6 inches wide.

From Denmark they were here with me in Aus in 5 days.

    Regards,
    Ellis.

Be careful as the ones from downunder and for the euro markets are different than the ones used on the US models.

Some ebay sellers sell products that they have no idea about and really do not care if their listings are correct or not. One very obvious issue with the listing is that the 88-89 fog lights are instant givaway. They are not rectangular in shape but the ebay listing has them all as correct.

You will also not find these on realoem or other sites as they are part of an item that was generally installed by BMWNA. Try to find the US front spoiler listed on realoem as well.

I believe these are the same as the fogs used on the US e30 is models as well.

The set in good used condition typical sells for about $60. Let me know if you need a set as I probably have a few sets at the shop.

Pay attention to that picture...those are not the same size as the ones you posted...not even the same corners(square not rounded)...the lenses I posted #s for are exactly what you need

Well if US-spec fogs are different to Euro then perhaps mine aren't the best to go off. Our mounting brackets certainly look different.

Re the curved edges etc, I don't have pics of the new ones without the mounting bracket, but these are older shots I took of the lens I replaced where you can see the lens shape a little more clearly.

Suabby was nearly on the money. This is indeed the correct one, I think.

    http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...=W0133-1613282,

Can anyone confirm this before I go buy them? Or should I just go ahead? They look the same as my current ones, front and back, except the front's glass may be a tad bit different in what's imprinted on them.

That is correct. For most euros the ZKW fog was from the factory. I was told very matter of factly by many that is was not...when I removed my broken one what do you know BMW part # and BMW roundel.
    *For euro's only 09/198206/1987#63171375068$81.88Cat=No

    You are right and wrong.

The ZKW lights were supplied by BMW and might have been used in some later models but were generally offered as replacement if you damaged the originals. In the 80's, the e24 was supplied from the factory with the Hella lights. If you check the date code on the ZKW lights, you will most likely find that they have a 90's or later production date. I have a set of new ZKW replacement lens here that are in the original BMW factory packaging with factory part numbers. I also have NOS Hella assemblies that have the original BMW packaging from the late 80's. A few years ago, I had a difficult time finding Hella lens as replacements for my original Hellas and I also have a 25k mile original m635 here now that still has the original hellas installed.

Yeah that's what I gathered I went through a time figuring out what was what (as the OP is finding for his US car) and was told they were not a bmw part and would pay handsomly for new, and $60+ for lens, etc.etc... but eventually found new ZKW replacements for $15 a pc. and bought some lamin-x sheets to avoid the issue in the future.

The stable is filling up with unicorns. Not all mine but that is all I will say. I have also always said that there are more than just the "known examples" of any model out there.

Dangit. AutoHausAZ only has one fog in stock, so I can't order yet. Anyone know of any other sites that have W0133-1613282 or 63 12 1 468 159?

Sorry to bring up an old one. Wondering if you ever got the fogs as I just removed the fogs on my car (4.75in width) and would like to find ones that fill the opening.

here is a photo of my fog.

I think I may have the Hella lamp - new old stock - but don't know how to add a picture. I usually insert a .jpg on other forums
