No Power to Stereo

Hello,

I bought my '91 e30 used, and the previous owner installed an aftermarket stereo. I wanted to take it back to stock, so I bought an original head unit and am trying to install it... unfortunately, the previous owner left quite a mess. I've attached bad photos of my attempt at rewiring, but its such a mess I'm not sure my images are very useful. Currently, it illuminates, but doesn't do anything when given a tape. I'm at my wit's end, ideas? Also, my tach and interior light don't work, although they started working incessantly as the harness connections bumped around while driving. Not sure if that's relevant, but maybe it's related.

Have you checked fuse 12 (7.5A)?
Sounds like something shorted.

I've checked it—unfortunately, it's intact.

Update: That fuse ended up being bad, after all. I replaced it and the tach works now, but still now power to the radio.

Best get to work with a multimeter and check if the wires are what they say they are.
I'm bad at electrics, so that's all I have.

Hmm, thanks man. Time for me to buy a multimeter and learn electronics I guess.
