My understanding was that this was either an early model plate, or for Euro's. None of the e38's I've come across be it running or junk yard have ever had these.
I found one of these on Ebay for about $63. After Getting the Correct Clips for it on Amazon and putting it on my ride is much quieter and the rumble of the wind buffeting the engine compartment is virtually non existent. Now for that Tranny cover!

The original post linked to realOEM showing a different protective plate than the typical plastic belly pan that we all have. That plate from what I understand was for cars in various regions that dealt with rocks and other stuff that could damage the plastic belly pan.

I agree it was originally talking about the trans cover that attaches to the back of the belly pan. That did not come standard in the US. I know Darth is one who ordered and installed the additional parts a number of years ago.
But I think our new member above may or is talking about the standard belly pan.

I wonder if the additional trans covering makes any meaningful aerodynamic difference (in other words, a fuel economy difference at highway speed)? And I've always wondered why it's not included on the US market cars.
My under belly Pan stays on. Got critters at my job that like to chew on stuff under the cars.

Had the eBay Cover on and Avoided Chris V's Fate this Sunday. Torrential but short-lived rains hit south Texas and my E38 handled it like a Champ. Only the rain would that would come through the Grille and that didn't even get to the Fan. The engine was Dry top to bottom and the E38 powered through with the new Michelin's. I had recently installed. DEFINITELY Worth the Money!
