AirBag Light Stays on and Passenger Seat Belt Alarm Inactive

I have a airbag light that will not go out and a seat belt alarm that no longer activates when a passenger occupies the seat. I am also getting a DTC in the Multi Restraint System (MRS) that I cannot clear. “Occupant Classification System (OC3).” My assumption is that the problem is with the Seat Occupancy Matt (Part# 52103455248). I am seeking a second opinion about the diagnosis and to know if anyone has any experience with a Seat Occupancy Matt Bypass. I am looking at options to the hassle of replacing the seat matt.

After doing a bit more research on the problem I found out that my model year is the subject of a BMW Safety Recall 17V-605. BMW will repair the problem for free when the remedy is available and claims its a three hour repair.
