Hello
Any Z3 gurus out there know what the stock diff is in the 96 Z3 1.9?
Anyone know what OEM torsion diff will mount up, possibly with a steeper final drive?
Thanks
You most probably have a small case open diff.
A medium case torsion or LSD from a later model Z3 can be fitted, but you need to check the drive shaft flange and half shaft flange sizes to see if it will bolt up to your car.
The RealOEM web site will be your friend in sizing the flanges and getting part numbers if you need to change them.

2000 3.0L Z3 Roadster,
There is only one thing more pleasurable than working on a Z3, that's driving it top down on a fine day.
I think if you fit a medium case diff you will need axles too, and I'm not sure which ones would be used to fit a medium case diff to 4 cyl trailing arms
RealOEM should indicate what diff that car has. Good to use for future. There is some info courteous of Ron Stygar on this topic as well...
According to this the E36/7 (Z3) M43, M44 (4 cylinders) only came with locking differentials when equipped with the sports package after March 1st, 98 (I am assuming European date annotation due to the S50, not S52, engine being listed). As such a 96 will not have a locking diff.
