M50 intake manifold swap... Bimmerworld kit?

So I want to put my M50 intake back on. But wanted input on this kit from Bimmerworld. Has anyone use this kit and do you need anything else that doesn't come with the kit for the installation?

why not use the m50manifold.com kit? seems everyone raves about it on the forum. I just installed an M50 on my turbo coupe and didn't use a kit at all. I am sure it would have saved some time if I did.

Because all the hose clamps were loose and leaking oil from the red heater hoses from previous owner, also there was a vacuum line not connected. It was just a poor plumbing job. I also wanted to know what the difference was from stock vs M50

I see. Missing that top end power? I see a lot of negative comments on here about the swap, but it's been great for me on S52's and my M52B28.

Yes I had more top end power and I got there quicker as well.

Put it on a dyno. The very few that actual have go quiet pretty quickly.

I saw this at a book store the other day and took these pictures purely for the sake of aggravating Randy rf.

I can't argue about the dyno comment. Never done or even cared to look up before/after results. I just have the logic of more air flow=better. lol. And after driving my 95 M3 for 5 years, my 97 M3 felt choked off and terrible in the top end. Same with my roadster. So I swapped to M50, problem solved. Going to do the same with my M52TUB28. Is the M54B30 mani going to hurt me? Absolutely not.

Oh gosh, I had bad memories of doing that swap. Many years later and it's been working great, but all the hoses underneath aren't fun to connect. My butt dyno says it was a good mod.

I have the m50manifold.com kit on mine for 3+ years and so far so good. I would think the Bimmerworld kit is just as good. The only thing I recommend getting is the Bimmerworld modified air tempt sensor that plugs into the m50 manifold. I wish I had gone that route rather than sticking the air tempt sensor in the intake boot like everyone else.

I ended up trimming my temp sensor and treading it with a kit you can rent from an auto parts store. Screwed right in.

So you made your own threads on the original air sensor? What is the washer for and did you epoxy the sensor in as well? Did you have to tap threads in the M50 intake too?

I made my own kit with a 325is ICV hose setup, manifold brace and 2 TB gaskets with a piece of trimmed license plate to go between the two TB gaskets, like the BW kit. I've never had an issue since most of the under manifold vacuum lines are OEM obd1.

I can take some pictures if anyone wants, but it was super easy and cheap.

yes, I used a tap and dye set from autozone. The washer was already there so I just used it. lol.

I did not expoy the sensor because it fit so well.

I did not tap the M50 intake. The threads i "think" was an M12x1.25. I used the same threading for the sensor.

It really helps to have a bigger throttle body and something like Dinan DME remapping done. I used the Turner kit. Once done I knew I needed new stickier tires since I could lock up my LSD in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears just getting on the highway, HUGE difference for me.

What I have noticed in a lot of experimenting is that the S52 with M50 manifold will start oversaturating the MAF capacity at around 5500 rpm, and then the ecu will become very inaccurate with fueling, leading to the minimal power gains.
A 3.5" maf and a tune will correct most everything. The low end torque loss can be managed too. I have tuned a local endurance racecar (IDBRacing) with 803 MAF, and the results were great.

Did you have to change out the throttle body? I found the MAF 803 and Turners connector plug and I'll have cbtuning do a tune. Will I need anything else.

You don't have to, but it's a tiny little thing that may help a tiny little bit.

Larger injectors are not completely necessary, the 21.5 will fuel enough. Many times they try to upsell you 24lbs. Unless they just don't have the tune written for it....

I will ask my buddy at the tune shop and see what tune he has before I start ordering parts and get his input too. Thanks again

Would this be the correct 3.5" MAF and Connector to use for an upgrade with swapping out to the M50 intake
