I need to change my oil level sensor. I'm tying to sell the car and I don't want this light scaring people off. I know that it is electronically failing as it showed up in my friends INPA software.
My oil is only a month old... Can I drain the oil, change the sensor, then use the same oil? Don't wanna spend money on over 6 quarts of new oil at this point.
Thanks for any advice!

Yes, you can. I would suggest buying a brand new drain pan (less than $10) and making sure you keep it clean. Do this in a garage if possible.
What "thumbs up" really means
There is (always) another way. Use your old drain pan but put a clean plastic bag in it.

If it really bothers you, just change the 'oil level sensor'....or be honest, tell the perspective buyers why. If they are BMW savvy, they will understand.
as long as you keep it clean when it comes out there is no reason it cannot go back in. If it gets contaminated with dirt or other fluids then i would avoid reusing it.

I've removed these on other cars. I didn't drain the oil. I removed the sensor, quickly put my thumb over the hole, then put in the new one. Afterwards I cleaned off the oil that leaked with paper towels. Just have the replacement sensor ready to grab. If you're fast you only lose a very small amount of oil. Do it with the car cold.
