Bottom line, I want to reset my airbag light,
and the $15 B800 reader isn't doing it.
Can I buy something that does?
I have a $15 Veepeak ODB2 reader.
Use it with Torque and OBDFusion to read/reset codes.
Works fine.
I have an airbag light to reset and the $15 B800 reader isn't resetting.
I do not want to install INPA on an old laptop (too big a project)
I am looking at paying the dealer $150 to reset the SRS light anyways.
Is it worth investing in a "next level" code reader?
I noticed there are $200+ code readers.
What special uses are they for?
BlueDriver seems popular for $99

I also see stuff like this in the $200 range

Any knowledgeable local shop should have a scanner with srs reset capability. Shouldn't be anywhere near $150. Don't just reset it, read the code first to see what its on for in the first place. There's a chance it'll need more than just a reset for the light to go away. If you're set on owning your own tool then the launch isn't a bad product, since it scans most of the modules on the car anyway. I've had a launch before i invested in a snap on and the launch worked fine.
PA Soft will read and reset SRS codes as well as all other BMW specific codes. It also allows for limited recoding of certain modules. Try ebay.
The light is not a legit code.
I connected the battery while the airbag was off (window regulator replace)

Find someone with a SRS Peake Tool or buy one. They only work on the SRS system, but they work well.
No go, I am running Windows 7.
I'd rather pay the dealer $150 than to deal with setting up some 15 year old laptop
I also have my SRS light on. I've read a few posts on this, but am still not sure what to do. I've pulled and re-plugged the plug under the passenger seat, with no results.
I hate to spend $150 to get it fixed, if I could do it myself and end up with a useful tool. I don't like spending money, but if I can get a tool that does more, like engine diagnostics, I probably should.
I am a DIY guy, and can even learn sometimes.
I'm not at all a computer guy, so simple is better.
I've read about the INPA setup, but it seems too complicated for me. I just read about PA soft, but don't have XP on any old computers
There is this tool, which seems to be good:
https://www.amazon.com/V7-0-Creator-.../dp/B00VSYZ2NC . Is this a good tool to buy? Is there a better one near that price ($64)
Any comments, help, or advice is appreciated.
...
The airbag light won't go away on it's own.
INPA is difficult for non-computer guys.
PA Soft works for me on windows 10.
Normal obd2 stuff won't work to reset the airbag.
Carly for BMW (Android app.... maybe Iphone too??) works for diagnostics, coding etc... and will reset your airbag light. You will need the app and a cable from Carly. It's not as cheap as chinese PASoft cables, but won't cost $150 and you will have full BMW diagnostics and coding abilities on your phone. I personally find the app a bit irritating, but it does the job.
All the programs work fine in windows 10 with the right configuration(inpa, pa soft, ncs, etc). Inpa and associated programs use 16bit applications, 64bit versions of windows dont support 16 bit apps, so you need the 32bit version of the OS for those. PA soft is 32bit so it should work on any OS. My diagnostic computer has been running windows 10 32bit for awhile now.

I ended up installing BMW Scanner (PA Soft) on my Win7 64-Bit.
Got it running after a few tries and cleared the SRS. Totally worth doing.

Will this tool work with a laptop for an E46 and an e60? Read and reset codes? I'm looking for something similar to Volvo's VIDA program.
TIA
Yes. Assuming it's all configured correctly, that should do everything you need.
Thank you.
