Did 250 miles from CT To MD early this morning. All stock 5sp sedan on bottlecaps, one passenger 87 octane bout 70-80mph mostly, almost all hwy driving, gave me just under 27mpg when I filled up at the WAWA
What do you guys see on the hwy?

1987 325e 5spd. 2.93lsd(I think) 2.7i conversion. 19lb injectors, m30 afm, and sssquid chip. Doing 70-80 I average about 27 and some change on the highway.
I keep detailed records of this type for all my cars. I have had my E30 for about 6 1/2 years and in that time I have made seven trips from home in Saskatchewan going west through the mountains and into the interior of British Columbia, each round trip was between 2700 to 3000 kilometres.
My average fuel consumption over these seven trips was 9.0 Litres per 100 km, which is 31 mpg (canadian) or 26 mi/USgallons, running on regular 87 octane
I drive at speeds of 100 to 110 km/hr (60 to 70 mph) on the highway
my E30 has the M20B20 engine with an automatic transmission and a 4.10 open rear differential.
tires and wheels were stock 195/65R14, but later changed to 195/60R15, with no perceptible change in fuel consumption

... forty-three years of driving before I get behind the wheel of a BMW .... and I am thinking, "why did it take me so long?"
... and then after another 4 years I can't believe that I have two of them !!
Making me think my m20b25 sedan is doing pretty well pulling 26.7mpg highway with a bunch of time up at 80! Wet roads maybe help eek out a tiny improvement?

The 86 325 automatic i bought for my son got 29mpg doing 80 for the 4 hour trip home from austin. I don't know what he gets because he drives differently but my other 86 325 with automatic (though the trans is going out) gets 23 in town. No out of town trips for that one because it still needs a little work
