    WTB: Supercharger for my OBD2 E36 M3

Well, my time trial rules are about to change and based on some quick math, I have a feeling I'm going to either be 500lb overweight or an average whp of over 50 horse low for the new class.

I can't really strip 500 lbs out of my car, so that leaves me with either adding power, or adding even more weight to try and stay in my old class.

So begins the search, anyone selling a good, complete, used supercharger system? My preference is a twin screw (for obvious reasons) either AA or Eurosport. After that I suspose I don't care, either an AA Stage 2 Rotrex with the C38, or a stage 2 Dinan/RMS Vortech kit.

Would be great to find something in the Denver, CO area, but beggers can't be choosers...

So, anyone have something for me?

Want something intercooled. Since this is for my track car it'll get heat soaked inside of 2-3 laps if its not.

To upgrade the non intercooled refurbished Dinan kit you would have to spend $3k on an RMS intercooler kit, tune, injectors, and hfm. Might as well just buy an RMS kit with everything for $6k and it comes with the newer Si trim blower. RMS also sells it without tune or injectors or hfm for $5200, but you’ll spend up to $1500 adding those parts depending on tuner.

At $6k, I’d go turbo. I had a Vortech intercooled kit and now have a turbo.

Yup, I know. Unfortunately at $6k, I won't be getting anything, that's out of my budget. I've found a few used intercooled kits but by the time I complete them I'd be into them for $4500-5000. At that price point its close enough to the cost of a new turbo kit that I'd rather just build the new turbo kit.

So I'll just keep looking for a good, used, complete, intercooled supercharger or turbocharger kit...

There are 3, stage 2 AA kits on ebay. Perhaps try the "best offer" option on ebay and see what happens. Good luck.

Saw those, none of them include tuning. So add $900, at that point you're not that far off the cost of a new kit. Getting the tune is the key for a used kit to make sense financially. Well, that and having the kit be complete with a blower that doesn't need to be rebuilt.

Two of them claim to come with software. And like i said before, there is a "best offer" option for all of them. Its not hard to subtract 900 from whatever you are willing to pay and make an offer. I would even bet the 900 tuning of today would be much better than whatever was used back when these kits were made. But its clear you are not interested, so good luck with your search.

I appreciate your help, but there's a reason I'm not interested. That's because those kits on eBay are asking $4500-5500, which is more than I want to pay. Especially if they don't come with software, or the software they have isn't matched to the mods I already have on the car. (M50 manifold, long tube headers, etc, etc) I've found that if you throw out an offer lower than they want, they don't even respond, or respond with a counter offer $10 less than their asking price.

It may take me awhile to find what I want for the price I'm willing to pay and I'm fine with that. Patience has served me well and gotten me some very nice, expensive parts for good prices.

The $2500 kit is an old C30 and I would skip that. The $4500 kit needs an ECU tune that would likely cost about $900 but looks decent to me. The $5600 kit is even lower mileage and you could probably realign the ECU to your EWS or remove EWS for $150. However, when new is $6900, used at $5600 is not a great deal, at least to me. I’d want 1/3 off new for that kit but I would go turbo instead. A drifter is selling a turbo system for $2400 without tune.

Plus Turner is selling the AA kits for 15% off right now, which makes a brand new kit ~$5900. So buying a used one for $5000-5600 isn't something I'm going to do. As I mentioned above, if I have to spend $4500-5000 on a used kit, I'll wait and put together a new turbo kit instead.

It's too bad my local friends AA kit didn't have software, otherwise that's the one I go for.

Well, patience paid off for me. Got a dinan/RMS stage 2 kit for a great deal, even when I pay for the needed tune

It does not cost 2500 to add an intercooler and piping. Im sorry but f you have to buy a intercooler and piping kit from AA why did you get into building/tuning/racing BMWs this is a car we work on (I Do) time after time. Intercoolers on ebay have proven well up to and over 600hp.... I have a V3si brand new kit never even spun once available.Eve if you don't buy mine the thought of buying a 2-3k intercooler set up is far beyond logic and way past the ingenuity I have seen on this and many other forums. The information is out there for you to build it as easy as a Lego set.. Adding a intercooler and piping will not cost you near 2500. You could easily do this for well under 1k. Google it! I have seen Aftermarket custom Aftercooler set ups for the e36 for less then 1k. Its not hard to do. GL!

Not sure where your rant is coming from. I never said it cost $2500 to add an intercooler. Sorry but I wasn't interested in your VF kit, good luck with your sale.

I believe he was responding to Pbon's $3k price tag to upgrade a non-intercooled Dinan/RMS kit. The aftercooler setup alone can be had for $1800 new or around $1000 used.

Correct Pbon's 3k is crazy. This isnt about you buying my Supercharger at all Just like I stated in the Reply. I wanted to make sure that you were aware you could go with ANY kit you find and get a cheap cooling set up for cheap. I have seen after coolers under 1k new but you have to do a lot more custom work. Thx Braymond141 for trying to clarify. This has nothing to do with being against you DOC it is merely a suggestion. I think c38 is a great kit with major possibilities and you DONT have to spend 3k for cooling.

Ah, sorry. Wasn't clear to me who you were responding to. I actually found a Dinan/RMS Stage 2 setup that I bought. I need to source tuning for it tho and am in discussion with Braymond about his NickG tuned ECU...

If you want an RMS water to air kit and new tune to go with it to upgrade from a stage I kit you will spend $3k. If you want to make your own air to air kit you can but the piping is convoluted due to the limited space. Most of those home made rigs have about 3 psi pressure drop so you have to spin the blower faster to compensate. But people have done it

    https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...mation-Vortech

    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qU234fgB7V8

You might be able to do that for a few hundred dollars assuming you can weld the piping. Add a new tune and injectors and you could be in the $1500 range.

I liked the RMS water to air unit — it would be my first choice for a supercharged car.
