I've owned a couple e38's and wanted to pick up a e31, I found one with 200k and it's looks to be in good shape, how much is it worth? I've seen people ask some high numbers on these cars even when there beat up.
anywhere from $3000 to $20,000. How about year?, is it a V8 or a V12?, manual or automatic?, does it have maintenance history?, are there any mechanical, electrical issues? Just because it looks "in pretty good shape", doesn't mean a lot if the car doesn't run right. If it is in top notch condition mechanically and cosmetically, then it will command a higher price (despite the 200K mileage).

...the price of cool ain't cheap!
1994, v8, automatic, 2 owners and a few maintenance records, he says there's no issues with it just minor wear on the interior, hasn't sent pics yet to determine, im guessing it has a leak or 2.
By this time the timing chain guides should have been replaced. If not, then you may be in for some fairly major engine work. Having owned and E38, v8? I'm sure you are familiar with this type of maintenance.

'94 840 has M60 in it. Timing chain guides are not an issue in that case.

But it would be a Nikasil block, and possibly a California car all its life... So in those cases just have a compression check on all cylinders. Might be a good bargaining chip if the numbers are low or all over the place. Then swap in an M62 or S62
Also note the transmission should be a non-triptronic ZF 5HP24 (black label), which requires the special Shell ATF (Turner has an equivalent now). Do not treat this black label tranny like the E38 green label 5HP24 transmissions. Different programs, different friction setup.
