The interior and underside are spotless! This car definitely screams pride of ownership. And you know what, that little bit of cosmoline on the intake manifolds in no way detracts from the car. Two thumbs up!!

Unbelievable. Absolutely stunning... Although I'd ditch the Aplinas for throwing stars... They look fine, but a car that perfect needs OEM wheels!

Makes me happy though, that I just bought that same steering wheel for my 8'er!

steering wheel......would prefer the M-sports wheel (with m-stiching), nice example and I love those rim's and nice color-combo.

Just wondering how they done the under site ...!? Never driven outside ? or taken apart to clean it .... only way to get it looking that way (i would not know how to do it otherwise).

    For the purist:
    - no cd43 (wrong radio), we did not have business CD but the cassette versions.
    - hifi option (came with CD player), but cd player gone in boot
    - wrong spare (OEM is matching throwing star in EU, at least the version I have, EU german)
    - wrong rims
    - rear diffuser: missing part to cover tow hole and missing black sticker (so has been painted)

The M airbag wheel wasn’t available back then, but I’d also prefer it over any other wheel. Add MFL as well.
I am a purist myself, but if you can upgrade to something better while using BMW parts aka OEM+ to me you’re actually making it better than BMW did.

Things like a better OEM headunit, steering wheel, rearview mirror, etc.

Very pretty car. Looks like it was wonderfully taken care of. Good luck to the new owner.

Agree partly... yes if it is not a classic or future classic. Once cars become "classic/collectible" is is simply not done and decreases the value (ask any classic car specialist..it goes down to nuts and bolt level originality). But you can still do it (as long as it is very easy to reverse, like rims if you still have the OEM ones).

Yeah I hear what you say. To nuts and bolts level, I’ll leave that to the ‘concourse’ guys. That means zero driving and fitting new bolts at the slightest hint of corrosion.

Since I have my future classic or which is now becoming one for me and not as an investment object, I’d like to make things better in OEM context. Take the MFL for example. I’m using my factory M wheel and added just the switch pods.
Looks and feels 100% original and as should’ve been offered. I doubt it would make it any less valuable, even to a purist collector. But like you say, everything I changed is 100% reversible and all custom wiring is done through ‘retrofit looms’ aka I never ever cut into factory wiring.

I thought the ad said the equivalent of $94,000 USD. But who knows what the actual sale price was.

This car is gorgeous. Looks stellar even without the wood trim.

My understanding from reading is that you could option wheels on the CSI in lieu of the Throwing Stars. That may explain the Style 5 spare. Similarly, if the build sheet was pulled, I would not be surprised to see that the trunk delete was requested, but I am simply guessing on this point.

Agree the radio is not original (but certainly at home here).

Regarding the radio, the build sheet shows a BMW business CD. It might be referring to the cd43 as the car has installed.

The CD43 was introduced in 1999. If it had any CD player, it would be the older in-dash CD unit.

No problem. Regarding the built sheet, unless we can check for ourselves, I often doubt what is listed. It also says AUC was optioned, while the climate control panel clearly does not show the auto-recirc symbol.

I really like the color combo on this car.
It's a beautiful example but has had some restoration work done, for sure.

Looking at the detailed pics of the underside, I'd say it has been extensively refurbished under there.
Also looks like the exhaust pipes and mufflers have been resprayed in a non-original color, as have the brake calipers (they were originally a dark grey color).
The front and rear bumpers have probably been resprayed - the rear one quite obviously, as the black decal insert hasn't been replaced after painting.
The "S704 M-Sports chassis" should not have been an option code for the CSi, as it was standard equipment.
This car was probably delivered with option 'S299A BMW Light Alloy Wheels' (Style 5), and the Alpina road wheels added later.

Sports airbag wheel is likely to be original (S255A option) - pretty sure that style was available in Europe in late 1993.
Passenger side of center console has two filled screw holes evident, possibly from a previous bracket/phone cradle mounting.

I'm curious as to what the little silver button is, on the driver's side console behind the seat heater switch?

Kiwi, they just list the complete VIN decoder list, which also list factory fitted options.

The Dutch text mentions that the Alpina wheels have been put on and the spare wheel is original.

The 255 Sports Steering wheel wasn’t available yet in 1993 and I wonder if this car’s wheel is the original rim. The airbag version of this wheel had the airbag warning light in the lower spoke.

He list BMW options on the site. NOT the same as the BUILD sheet option based on the VIN. HIFI system (no CD headunit at that time for a CSI). CSI has cassette player and CD in trunk, no other version for HIFI system in CSI.
Sport seats are standard on some EU CSI's but not all. My CSI's are both german versions (sportseats are STANDARD) and BOTH mention the option code for the sport seats in the build sheet (so it is a valid option code for CSI's even if standard).

Steering wheel is wrong..... did not exist for a CSI.

Spare... not sure, but if throwing stars you have a throwing star spare. Not sure if you could buy them with other wheels anyhow in 1993 and 1994 (except 1995 parrallel's).

BUT .... beautifull color combo and car.

I ONLY have one big question: how the hell did they do the undersite (without taking everything apart) !?

You don’t know if they didn’t take the whole underside off. Have you seen the Autoblog video about that GT40 restauration?

There they have literally undun every nut and bolt to restore it. Who knows what they did to this car.

Yep but why do this with a 86.000km car !? (i would not touch it, should be in excellent condition with 86.000km).

I see a lot of new parts under the car.....heatshields, bolts, clamps, etc .....exhaust has been coated or painted and not the OEM cats anymore (new cats welded in... they normally do not fail after 86.000km).
To me it looks like someone did some extensive work to the car (that you would normally not do if not needed).

Image 4: brakes caliper (tyre 245/40, so it is front wheel)...... not the brembo EU CSI ones (no M logo on the caliper).
--> anyone knows these calipers ?

    That's incorrect, on both points:
    - The majority of RHD 850CSi's (EG92) were ordered with this steering wheel option (255), starting from 13th Oct 1993 production date.
    - There's no such thing as an airbag light on this wheel - see picture of my car's wheel, as delivered from factory in March 1994.

Same for all the EG92 versions - it was an option, so if you didn't tick that option when ordering, you would get the comfort seats.

Not correct - see my answer above.

Again, the "S299A - BMW LA Wheels with Mixed Tyres" was an order option for all EG92 CSi's. A total of 41 RHD cars were delivered with these wheels (Style 5), the first one being CC88012 in April 1993.

Have attached the data sheet and Option list from my own CSi, showing the Sports Airbag Wheel, Light Alloy Wheels and Sports Seats were all selected options.
There was no such Option as "S704 M-Sports chassis" for any of the 160 EG92 cars sold.
