Recently I purchased a Schwaben scanner to check my steering angle sensor. Everything I try to click on says the it is not connected. Is this garbage that I should return?
Ecstuning owns and makes that brand. They make good stuff. Call them and ask their techs for help.

Ecs does not manufacture that unit. Foxwell does. You normally have to go through a connection process to the vehicle first before you do anything else.
You can search for issues connecting to your vehicle using foxwell as a keyword and you will likely get the results you need.

Looks like you have an 02 E46, if you have a 20 pin diagnostic socket under hood try using the adapter and going in via that. Some cars require going via the 20 pin instead of the obd2 port.

I don't have this connection. I did with my E36. I also have a Peake tool for both the engine as well as the SRS system. I purchased this unit because people online wrote that you don't need a Windows laptop to use the unit. Apparently you do. I have a Macbook, a Macpro, and a Macbook Pro as well as an ipad. Apparently what I was told was wrong and a person has to have a Windows PC to set it up. Is that true? Because if it is it is useless to me. I did consult with your chat feature about this. Can I make any use of it without a Windows PC?
Please contact me. I realize that this is a big weekend.

James - all e46s we’re equipped with OBDII and do not have the 20 pin connection.
Curry - you only need access to a Windows computer to update the software on the scanner. It should operate fine connecting directly to your car via the OBD port.

That's the issue. It doesn't work as described. Everything I click on gives a no connection signal. It won't load anything.
return that, get a launch connector and for the price of the connector you can unlock two brands with the purchase price... download the app from the appstore will do everything you need to get done on an e46 easy for less than 100 bucks
Buy my native installed ISIS ISTA-D/ISTA-P bmw diagnostic laptop. More Info Here!
I have had the ECS Schwaben scanner for almost two years and have never had an issue with it. It is very nice for the cost. Are you sure your ODB port is functional? I would test the Schwaben scanner on another vehicle before giving up.
My Peake tools with an adapter, as well as my regular OBDII tools all work when using the port. Sadly they won't read the Steering angle sensor. My VAGCOM tool reads it, but it can't change it. I don't think there is anything wrong with the connector in the car.
It won't even read the VIN number. The unit must be defective. I'll contact ECS on Monday.

I had to return the unit. At least they were polite about it.
