    Trouble-Shooting Driver's Seat

The driver's seat on my car had already been unbolted and unplugged from car when I bought it. I don't know if PO was going to try and repair it or not. I pulled it out to make it easier to work under the dash when I removed the GM.

I wanted to re-install the seat last weekend but its a bit jacked up. Seat rails and lift mechanism are uneven. I have removed seat rail assembly and used a drill to adjust the rails a bit as Tom suggested. I have removed cables from motor assembly and they appear to be long enough to engage motor/gearbox.

Can the motor be powered up with 12v to see if mechanism is working properly?

I have also removed the lift cables and one appears to be too short with only a 1/4" or so protruding from the sheath so I will adjust the sheath on it and probably take a bit off on the other side.

Would like to test both mechanisms out of the car if possible. Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

Plus one on Paul. His front seat cable set and instructions made quick work of the seat repairs.

Usual problem with the seat rails is a broken plastic gear, not the cables. If you are the only driver you could just adjust to your liking and leave it.

Where are the gears located? The only gears I could find easily are under the plastic cover on the 'voltage regulator' connected to the motor. And they appear to be find. I just tested the cable mechanism with a drill and one rail moved evenly but the other side did not so there must be a gear in rail that is partially stripped.

I went back and re-read a few threads and found info on gears you are referring to. Just got the internal assembly apart and found split gear on spline shaft. What are the sources for this 17t gear? Thanks,

Odometer Gears can make a replacement using your gear for a mold. He doesn't keep replacements in stock but his delivery time is only a week or so once he receives gear.
