When shifting from N to D or R, it jumps, is not a smooth shift.
Is this a typical characteristic of this car model?
Please guide me toward causes, and how could I fix it:
1. Fluid level low? High? or old fluid?
2. 1st Gear Synchro's on the Getrag worn?
3. To high engine idle speed?
4. Train / Teach the transmission?
5. Flexible suspension / supports and coupling with the output shaft (Quipo?)
6. Shifter ? Valves?
7. Torque Converter worn?
8. Rear shaft differential ? Oil level? change? Topping?

Hello and welcome to the forum! Does this happen no matter the setting or typically just during the first start-up of the day? Does the car shift properly when driving or is it rough then too? Have you had the CEL come on?

Thank you Sr. Member
I bought this car a year ago; I don’t know what maintenance it had, so I am doing all again.
The Check Engine Light CEL, came six months ago, I bought the OBDC BM II, TO READ THE MANY CODES, I deleted all to wait them to reappear. Nothing appeared yet.
The transmission is not rough.... but is not smooth either.
the situation I described is not only in the first start in the morning; is every time I move the transmission stick from N to D or to R.
I also noticed that:
-The front suspension lowers 1/2 inch when I move from N to D; and pushing the brake pedal.
- The front suspension rises 1/2 inch when I move from N to R; and pushing the brake pedal.
Returning N position, the front suspension relaxes at normal height.
I font get a gonk sound, by I can feel the torque triggering power from the torque converter to the transmission, or maybe from the transmission to the output shaft... may be the differential too... or universal a Coupling in between them.
One thing for sure; that is not how a new transmission feels.
Thank you.
I would check motor mounts, transmission mounts, driveshaft and Guibo, differential mounts, etc. My 540i would thump like you described when I swapped the diff and didn't torque the front mount bolt hard enough. Could also be differential bushings.
Is your suspension really worn? The car shouldn't move like that just sitting in gear
