I forget too! The e30,e36 parking brake is similar. Something like this: Disconnect the cable at the hand lever, remove the lower spring (9) from the shoes (possibly remove 10, 11 also), separate one of the shoes from the spreader, wiggle the spreader out of there and disconnect the cable from the spreader. May have to completely remove the brake shoes

    Cool

If its a drum brake--you take off the nuts to the parking line your changing attaching it too the parking brake lever in the cab of the car, raise the car in the rear-chock the front tires, remove the the tire on the side of the parking brake line your changing, remove the drum and remove the drum pads-hardware and all-disconnect the parking brake line from its expanding lock then pull the line out, install is reverse. Looks like remove the support bolts as well.

I'm trying to remove the entire rear disc braked 323i subframe from a 320i. The only thing left is to remove the emergency brake cbles. I did the swap about 15 years ago and the 323i subframe is going to be put into another 320i. I've removed the cables from the handbrake handle but I can't recall how to remove the entire cables from the body. Can anyone help my failed memory?

    Here's how I did mine:

Disconnect the brake-end of the cable (these are the steps shown in the attached images above)

    - remove the calipers and rotors
    - use a hex key to turn the parking brake shoe retainers 1/4 turn and remove
    - use a vice grip to remove the lower parking brake spring
    - pull the parking brake shoes apart at the bottom and remove upwards
    - pull apart the actuator thing and push out the little button that secures the brake cable to the actuator.
    - remove the two lock nuts securing the brake cable to the backing plate
    - pull the cable out of the backing plate so it flops free.
    - unclip the cable from the hanger that is attached to the trailing arm.

Remove the cable from the car - this was the hardest part from me, the ferrule was corroded to the cable tube
    - spray the ferrule with some penetrating oil
    - grab it with some vice grips and wiggle wiggle wiggle, back and forth and back and forth while pulling out on it. it should gradually work looser and looser and finally pull free.

If the nylon/plastic covering over the cable is all broken on the cable, you might consider cutting it where it comes out behind the ferrule, and pullign the cable out of the car from inside the car. Then remove the ferrule last.

Hope this is helpful! I wasn't sure what part you were having trouble with.

    regards
    David

Thanks, cgifool. Part I'm having trouble with is removing the cables from the metal tubes going into the body. Found this old thread with lots of ideas and think I can handle it from here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...e-Cables/page2
