So my EWS decided to stop working and I now need to bypass it. I know the standard practice is to get a 404 DME and that is what I will probably do (Thanks MYKK for clearing that up) but I started thinking...
Where is the EWS code saved? Is it on the coding chip or on some EEPROM on the PCB?
If it is on the chip could one simply replace the chip with one that does not have EWS and therefore not have to replace the 484 DME?

It's in the binary code in the DME chip. I'm working.on finding and disabling that code to essentially turn off ews in 484. But it's gonna take time. 404 and 484 chips not interchangeable
Ahh ok thanks. I figured haha
You wouldn't happen to know if Dinan performance chips for 484 disable EWS do they?

I've got about a dozen spare 404 DME's, I've UV erased the chips. I can burn a stock 540i/6 404 tune on a chip, install and send ya a 404 DME with the manual trans tune.
Maybe send me your 484 manual DME in exchange so I can read that chip and add to my collection .
You'd still need to bypass the ews module behind the dash and cut & leave unplugged the green wire at pin 66 in the dme harness.
