Don't really work on there newer models, I have a 98 M Roadster that I take care of.
Local students mom asked me about this.
Any thoughts? help appreciated.
Hi Steve I️ think it’s the gas pump or O2 sensor. It revs high when at stop lights and seems like it wants to conk out when she drives it. She drove it to Orlando and said that it ran best on cruise control. It has gotten progressively worse. She doesn’t have a code only the yearly service engine light. I️ would be happy to pay you to fixit or look at it when you are available. It’s a 2011 328i xDrive please message me thanks so much!!!

Software is really helpful for situations like this. There are almost certainly stored codes, even if the engine light isn't on. My first guess would be a vacuum leak or MAF sensor issue. If you have an OBD scanner or software, you can view live data like fuel trims, maf reading, fuel pressure, etc.
Thanks. I have a generic scan tool. Will use that.
Also have a laptop with inpa software. Not sure if this will work on an 2011 car.

K+DCAN will work. For your 1998, pins 7+8 must be jumped together (or maybe your 20 pin adapter does that). The 2011 will need pins 7+8 to remain separated.
Rheingold is fantastic BTW.
