Wondering if anyone has pulled out dents with suction cups or ? in your gas tanks?
Both tanks in my 80 have been pushed in some from a tire shop drive on "body lift" - Lift.
WARNING to new E21 owners - do not let tire shops use these to lift your car for tire work or at least make sure they know what they are doing! These can also crush/bend the pinch rail along the bottom of the body these things lift the car with. And the floor pans - which I have already fixed, I also ask the manger to have the techs use floor jacks, sway bar mounts in the front if the air dam is off and rear subframe mounts.

My car has various pinch marks around the rail, in addition to having (what I assume) are jack stand points completely shifted and warped. I feel confident jacking the car on the rear and front crossmember and the rear differential-- thats about it.
You'd think a shop should be able to work that out. What a pain in the ass!
I've taken my E21 and E30 before to America's/Discount tire and they use those type of lifts. Now I need to check for any type of damage like you said. Maybe going forward I'll only take them the wheels instead of the car. That way no need to wait for a bay to free up so faster service?

I know you're probably looking for a no cost DIY method but what about a paintless dent guy? I just got my car back from one of them, they took every dent and door ding out for $150 including a pretty big crease in the RF quarter and a dent in the leading edge of the hood that had to be pretty hard to work out. He got all the ones in the rear quarters out by going through the ash tray holes. Can't believe they can work through such small holes...

My tank also has a dent/crease from using the plug as a jack point. Passenger side tank, but I feel I'll do more harm than good to try and pull it out. It's not terrible IMO but being OCD it bothers me at times.

My tanks had some big dents in them . I was able to fix them with the tanks in . I went through the sender hole with a long hardwood stick and hammer .
The dents popped right out after a few blows .
