As you all know I have a '94 740iA with 305k original miles, I still have the factory nikasil block and she idles and drives like a dream. The lowest compression number is 170 psi. When I bought the car the owner gave me a massive binder housing all 3 keys, the original window sticker, the buyers brochure in perfect shape, and every receipt/invoice of everything done to the car down to a light bulb change. After reviewing and documenting every recipt into an excel spreadsheet not once did I see an engine replacement and or a rebuild. Therefore I believe my car is the proof that nikasil blocks are not an issue.

Not entirely true, the Nikasil is just a sleeve in the cylinder not the entire block. The Nikasil sleeve would deteriorate with levels of high sulfur in gasoline leading to oil in the combustion chamber. from what I have heard about the Nikasil issue is that there were no Nikasil engines brought to the U.S M62 or M52 there are no Nikasil engines in the U.S.A. Right, mine is the M60 never swapped to an Alunsil. My point was pretty much that Nikasil isn't really an issue at least these days with my car being the proof.

As per a chat I had with a BMWNA rep a while ago, the Nikasil issue really only occurred in the southeast US (Georgia, Carolinas, a couple of Gulf states and some parts of Florida, in which obviously everyone had money to complain). The furore over it is, in my opinion, overblown. Besides, any engine that's made it this far without issue clearly hasn't been affected--if it didn't blow by 2000 or so, it isn't going to. I think I recall seeing something like 2% problem rate over all of North America.
That would make some since, my car was first imported up in Minnesota and lived its first 100k in North Dakota (I even have the first owners address). According to the two BMW master techs of 20 years that I know these M60s are super difficult to kill and love being driven hard.
