after replacing the starter motor in my 83 e21 i ran into some serious electrical issues. i believe its a grounding problem somewhere. when putting the car back together i connected the battery to test the new motor, i just wanted to see if it would crank, sparks flew from the grounds near the the driver side fender and began to glow red hot. the only time i dont have sparks fly is when i pull off the engine ground. even then i have no crank. any suggestions? ive checked all the grounds. in the process of replacing the new starter i took off the intake manifold, alternator, and brake booster with everything else attached.( i know that an unnecessary amount of parts to remove but i ran into more trouble with stripped Allen bolts). is there something obvious that im missing?
