So, I have a 2001 e46 325i. Recently, when I start the car for the first time after it's sat for a few hours, the transmission warning light will come on. If I wait for the car to warm up, turn the car off and then turn it back on, the light will usually go off and will drive smoothly. This process of waiting can take 10 minutes some days and up to 30 minutes on others. The transmission was completely rebuilt earlier this year. I've heard it could possibly be low voltage, but the battery still tests good and is only almost 2 years old. Any help or advice given is appreciated. Thanks.
Get the codes read. Best way to start off diagnosing it.

+1.
The computers have something they want to tell you. You'll need a BMW specialist shop, with a BMW specific scan tool, to read and print up the codes from the DME (engine), the EGS (transmission), and the ABS (brakes) computers.
Um, here comes the big question(s): How many miles on the car, and HOW MANY transmission services has it had?
Yeah, that's what I figured. Sorry.

Just broke 211,000 miles last week and as far as I know the tranny has only been worked on once. I asked the guys who worked on it if it looked like it had been serviced before and that said everything looked original.
I've only had the car for the past 4 years but everything seemed really well maintained when I purchased it.
I'm going to schedule to take it back to the shop to get the computer read and I'll post any findings. Thank you all for your thoughts so far!
