Has anyone applied or had Ceramic Coating on their car?
I am considering fixing about 10 dings out of the my 2007 Z4 and getting a Ceramic Coating to bring it up a level.
The reviews of Ceramic Coating are very positive.
The coating sounds good. I would think you would want your paint to be in as great a condition as possible. I'm still trying to get watermarks off my 03 Black Z4. It's driving me crazy, others don't see them but I do.
I know that feeling. I see every imperfection. They have to get the paint in great condition, claybar the car and apply the ceramic coating.
I washed my Sapphire Black Metallic when I got it. It was always garaged. I put a clay bar on it, I poloshe'd it by hand and then waxed it. My son sees it and says, what about the water spots. I go out and buy a dual action , random orbital polisher and get Meguiars scratch and swirl remover. Spend a little time on it, take it out into the bright sun, can't see them .Bring it back in the garage, there they are. I need a different product for slight scratches and spots, and something to get the touch up blobs of paint to blend in flat.
I've had a few black cars over the years, a Corvette, Mercury Capri II, a Mazda RX7, a Mazda Pickup and a really dark blue 750i, and the are stunning when freshly washed and waxed. Drive them 3 feet and it's another story - I avoid dark colors now.
I have plenty of time, only had the car since April. It stays in my garage. I'm not driving it in the rain. I'll work on it until I get the right product or technique. Meanwhile putting new wheels and tires on it. This is my first black vehicle.
I have to get the dings out first, there are about 10 of them and they want about $400 dollars.
It is expensive being good looking.
Thats a lot for PDR at least near me. I paid $150 to get rid of 6 and guy spent an hour reducing the size on a 7th
Ceramic coatings are great. Buddy ceramic coated my black x5 before he sold it to me. Really helps keep it clean but still requires maintenance washes and etc
For hard water marks and swirls, the best thing to do is a good washing, first, followed by clay-baring it. And follow that up with a very fine polish. THEN use a good quality ceramic coating, It's a lot of work but the compliments you'll get are the best reward for your efforts.
.
I want to have the PDR guy go over my black Z before getting a ceramic coating. Until then, I had it professionally polished and use 303 Graphene about every 3 washes. It's a fantastic product and water spots and bug guts are not an issue.
