First e24 - Interior door handle/arm rest question

    Hi,

I have recently purchased an 89 635csi, and it needs some TLC. The driver side door panel was removed by PO to fix the window, and the door panel is in pretty bad shape along with the door handle.

I would like to confirm if a door panel/ and door arm rest/handle from ANY year e24 would fit or would only 88/89 model work? If anyone has a clean set for sale, please let me know .

    Thanks!

If you want to save time and stress get one from an 83 car or later. Earlier cars are quite different.

    http://bigcoupe.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=16762 should explain better.

That's confusing , since the last post there states this "The internal sheet metal of the door is different between the E12/E28-based cars."

    Meaning I wouldn't want 83 panels for 89 car ?

83 was when they started making the e28 based cars so you should be fine.
    So 1977-1982 = E12 Based
    1983-1989 = E28 Based

Makes sense, so the main difference between the early e28 vs late e28 is the lack of door pockets and how the arm rest section mounts just looking at the photos. I am open to running early (83+) style as long as it's all bolt-on and won't require any modification to the door panel , controls or the panel itself.
