Timm, I locked and then unlocked driver's door, climbed into car, (sitting on milk crate until i get seat gear). Alarm did not sound and LED alarm light went off right away with key in 1st position. Engine spins over, fuel level indicator works, idiot lights are on, but engine did not fire. But, I did not close trunk or hood so I dont know if that affected immobilization feature.

Will try again tomorrow and if necessary, I will get a neighbor to come over and watch for spark.

The car should start with the lids open - so you are in the realm of a million possibilities, and checking for a spark is a good place to start!

I finally got the engine running today for the first time since buying the car! Scott was a big help directing me to the 80 amp fusible links where I found one of them broken!

It is awesome that you have "turned the corner", the good news is that the road of 8 ownership is very windy indeed. But well worth it.

    Thanks!
I put just about 100,000 miles on BMW motorcycles back in the day when I was younger riding around a lot of the country. Western states were my favorite with trips to California and several to Colorado.

My son asked me for an exhaust note recording, lol, so I sent him the following. He could not believe how quiet it is. BTW, I was able to use the inexpensive pressure regulators on my early model car. I bought them from Rockauto, Intermotor brand by Standard Motor Products, #PR169. They did not fit as well as the oem regulators because the external flange is thinner so the clamps would not tighten them down enough, but the orings and rest of assembly seen to fit into rails deep correctly. So I made a couple of large nylon washers and slipped them over the outside of regulators so washers sit on top of flage so clamps would hold them firmly in place.

I installed MID today that I had sent to California ten days ago for repair. And the radio security code for the Pioneer radio also worked. So I pulled car out of garage and was running it while I messed with radio settings. Well, a short time later steam was rising from under the hood. One of the hose fittings on the water valve/pump broke off. Guess I am lucky I wasn't on the road but I am still working on the seat. And that valve is sure expensive.

Last night I finished seat repair with the brass cast gear I had made locally. A machinist squared up the gear when he reamed it and then he was able to press it onto spline shaft with a tight fit that did not require a pin or set screw. So I finally got to drive my car today for the very first time since buying it! I was just cruising around the neighborhood to be sure brakes worked and to check water temp. Trans shifted well so I will do a fluid/filter change soon.
I was very impressed with the car even at low speeds! Car feels more nimble that I expected. And, the EDC shocks seemed to be working properly. I was quite surprised how much body roll was reduced on 'sport' setting.
Car should pass inspection tomorrow so I can get it registered and start driving it. Plenty of additional work to do but it will be nice to drive it while I continue working on other stuff. I guess headliner will be my next project.

I had a strange occurrence today since putting my car back on the road yesterday. I have driven it about 3 or 4 hours now and today I was cruising along the expressway at 60mph and I pressed gas pedal just hard enough for trans to drop down one gear and begin accelerating up to 80mph when the engine quit! I was able to maneuver across a few lanes and pull over onto shoulder of road. I turned off key and then turned it back on and engine started right up! I pulled back onto expressway and continued on my way. I have no clue what caused engine to quit.
I tried to get the car to repeat same occurrence but it didn't happen. I also made a few hard acceleration runs from a dead stop up to about 70 and engine revs to redline without a miss. So its quite puzzling as to way it quit at highway speed under acceleration.

I have also noticed the front of car bouncing too much traveling at highway speeds so EDC struts/shocks must not be working properly. So I will probably put a set of Bilsteins on it put I need to look at M or CSi springs or the Eibachs with a modified rear set.

Check the ohm resistance on both crankshaft sensors, between pin 1 and 2 should be around .500 ohm +/- 10%.
You can have the EDC shocks rebuilt in Poland. If you want bilsteins I have a very lightly used set available.

Thanks! I will check the crank sensors in the next day or two, but I did install new BMW sensors before I ever started the engine. Just hope I dont have a faulty or broken wire in the harness on top of the engine.

I did see where Nagengast does the shock repairs.

More likely to be the fuseible links - they are well known for intermittent problems!

Thanks! I did replace the 80amp link per Scott's recommendation and engine started right up! Finally got to put on the road a few days ago and I have only had the one odd occurrence. I will go back and change the other fuse.
