Looks like a huge capacitor on top of front left wheel well, Siemens Sikorel 105. Was unable to identify part by number on BMW label. Any idea what it's for? Thanks,

It is a line filter to eliminate radio noise.
It's a tacked on after-market witch potion......

...the price of cool ain't cheap!
...of course, But i would keep it in place since it's there so nicely and be easily reversable.
The rare and much sought-after Flux Capacitor! The power coupling to route plasma through the Jeffries tube. It contains Diliithium crystals. Be careful when handling or Neutrinos may be released.
I have a 91, but no flux capacitor. Looks like time travel is not in my future.

Noise suppressor external to the audio system circuit such as this is best as it doesn't interfere with the audio signals from headunit, to amp, to speakers.
I would definitely keep it in place, that's a nice and rare factory option to have. My audio system is quite noisy and I have had to do a lot of things such as specific wire routing as well as installing aftermarket audiophile grade components (headunit, amps, speakers, cables). Cheers.
