Your opinions please with regard to an E21 Baur

I am committing heresy I suspect but I am thinking of chopping up one of my Baurs and going completely roof less and making it similar to a T Bird with solid tonneau covering the back seat making it a 2 seater, bumper delete and smoothed off beaver panel, external door handle delete and cross brace body with 2 small individual roll bars, black with caramel leather interior. I almost feel bad typing this is it plain wrong?
Also thinking about 300ish WHP and the other will remain unmolested

Can you suggest a good therapist?

Yes a good question...something unique but I am torn chopping up a Baur it started with a chat with old skool coach builder about the solid tonneau and been spinning around in my head. Alternatively I could just chop a sedan and do the same...I have a 330ci 'vert and I love the super clean lines and started me thinking on the Baur.

Just Chop a regular sedan. Baur's are the only E21's that are "rare", and I don't how see how starting with one would be a big advantage.

Err, I agree that Baurs are rare and he should chop a sedan -- but Baurs are the ~only~ rare e21? My C1 says "not so" and so does a B6 somewhere. I just know it does......

Don't chop your baur when there are so many non baur non alpina e21s around. You could probably sell the baur for good money and buy two e21s with the intent to chop one up to your preference.

You have made me see the error of my ways...chopping up a Baur how could I do it. So on the look out for an E21 shell and will go the whole way with that including door glass removal and smoothing/shaving entire body. Better polish up on my welding skills as its been many years and can see the finished product in my head I can see Troy Trepanier style in minds eye

    E21 convertible

There are some E21 convertibles in Europe. Lumma had a kit back in the days, that looks very nice.
But like others said, I would use a sedan, chop it and reinforce the chassis.

Chopping the roof off a sedan or baur's B pillar will make the car literally fall apart. Extensive modification and reinforcements would need to be done to keep it structurally solid. E21's are not known to be structurally stiff either. I would not recommend doing this.

Agreed. Chop a flexible flyer's roof off and all you'll have left is a deflated soft shell taco.

X bracing, and maybe tie-ins from driver to passenger door sills etc could be done

If I go ahead with it I am going to make it a 2 seater with some serious cross bracing in rear compartment so it becomes similar to a "barchetta" or "Phaeton" style. I am still trying to find images but it looks good in my head!

    Cool

To me making a convertible when it wasnt one, looks odd,, I quess I'm a Sedan man. If your into convertible I trust you'll hit the deck fast in case of flip over, with all the weight on the windshield. Roll overs believe it or not can occur at very low speeds when sliding sideways.
