    2009 X5 3.0l E70 Power steering fluid

Hello new to the X5 world here. Just picked up a 2009 X5 for the family. First thing I do with every new to me vehicle is change the fluids. I am getting mixed messages here.

In the manual it says CHF 11s (same as my 740)

The bottle on the car says ATF oil (assuming dextron III)?

    1 dealer says CHF 11s

Another dealer says ATF oil and it must be plain ATF? Not really sure what that is.

    Napa says CHF 11s

I’m sure I’m going to get a bunch of mixed messages here also but worth a shot.

    Thanks in advance!

Without a doubt, I'd go with the manual.

I’m kinda confused as to why they put a sticker on the bottle that says ATF oil only. Nobody can seem to give me a straight answer.

Would it hurt anything if I flushed what ever is in there out and used chf11s if it was ATF fluid???

Read this and check the colour of your oil https://blog.fcpeuro.com/bmw-power-s...uid-atf-or-chf

The color is a yellowish Brown. Chf11s is green new and turns colors. ATF fluid comes in a variety of colors. They seem to both turn the same color eventually.

I'd flush out the system using the green stuff and stick with green.

    Follow the manual instructions.

If you are going to top up, use the exact same fluid as marked in your PS reservoir cap.

If you’re planning to flush it completely, you can choose either.

If you live in a cold area, you should switch to Green fluid:
