    Valve body reman

Was experiencing hard shifting so I sent it out to be remanufactured by a trans specialist. I reinstalled today and trans wouldn't go into gear. What gives? First thing I thought of was the shift arm maybe wasn't aligned properly when reinstalling but that was ok.
Any thoughts on what I should be looking at?
    Thanks.

It’s really easy to not get the shift rod in the right “notch” as you are trying to align everything and hold the valve body in place. Does the shifter give you some resistance when you are trying to put it into gear?

When I dropped the valve body had the same issue, but it was the shift arm alignment being like this (taken from another thread): 02a45367479177ee7bae218e5c011878.jpg

Otherwise, the torque spec is fairly low for reinstalling, I believe 8 N-m (5.9 ft-lb). Were the bolts torqued evenly to that spec?

That was my first thought but shift rod is seated properly and moved through the gears as it's supposed to. Any other thoughts?

Not sure besides double checking the torques and re-seating. Does the transmission react at all to the gear lever movements? Was it refilled by the proper procedure?

I know it’s a silly one, but is the plug fully seated? There isn’t a lot of room up there, so it’s a bit of a challenge.

I'm going to recheck that today but it had no issues with it locking in place but ya...given how tight it is up in there it totally possible that it could be the culprit.

Not yet. Shift rod seated correctly and connections all tight. I sent it back to Trans Specialties in NJ who did the work for them to check over. I'm starting to think I should have followed the Shotgun tutorial on this and done it myself.

Absolutely. Yours is probably the first 850 valve body they have ever done. Regardless of what they might say.

I think you'd be surprised. The Zf4hp24 is found on a bunch of cars....jags, range rovers...

You are correct. The 4HP24 was certainly a popular and dependable transmission, with very few low mile failures. And the low mile failures only ever went to the dealer to be worked on by a factory trained tech.
