Changed the shock mount and no more noise... I also put the reinforcement plates on. Now heatercore is leaking but good thing is a friend of mine has done it on his car and is charging me a very good deal for the amount of things that need to be removed in order to replace the heatercore.

Hopefully it wasn’t stock length shocks that blew out your old shock mounts…

Thanks for this thread. If I order the rogue or ground-control rear mount can I still use the the sachs SHOCKS that I already purchased. I'll call the cheap reinforcement plates and meyle strut mounts a loss. When will I learn to ask you guys before I pull the trigger on ebay?

The aftermarket Rogue/GC/Bimmerworld mounts are designed to work with basically any shock made to fit on this car, so yes it should fit. If the shock would've fit on the stock mounts, it will fit on the new ones.

No reason to call that a loss. I did that almost 7 years ago and have had zero trouble since then. While factory shock mounts are the best, they're just fine, and the "cheap" reinforcement plates will do the job just fine as long as they're not made from aluminum foil. They're effectively just a big washer.

But I understand the rogue/bimmerworld mounts would give me easier access to change the SHOCKS next time, which is already trickier since I have a convertible

    Is this what you're suggesting:

    http://www.bimmerworld.com/s.nl/c.37....A/id.17757/.f

Do these cover the e46 and z3 reinforcement plates you're talking about?

I have a 1999 m3 convertible and mostly want the easier lower replacement option but also want the max protection against torn towers

Is any one of these 3 better than the other - I plan on using stock 10mm shocks

I have the GC mounts and they're fine. From what I understand the Rogue mounts are basically the same thing. The basic concept is there's the main part of the mount which assembles around the top of the shock and contains the bushing, and then there's a steel plate with the two bolts welded to it which sandwiches in from the top with the car's shock tower in between. The plate with the bolts drops in from the trunk so that once installed if you ever need to remove the shock you can do it from under the car without needing to de-carpet your trunk again. I'm not as familiar with Bimmerworld, so someone else will need to chime in there.

This is the reverse of the OEM mounts which have studs which stick up into the trunk from below and require trunk access to get to the nuts.
