I get a chirp that sounds like it is coming from my speakers when I turn my starring wheel. I've looked at some forum's and everything points to steering column noise.... this is coming through the stereo though. So I assume, loose wire or bad harness. Has anyone ran into this problem before or point me in the right direction? THANKS
That's likely to be a problem with the clockspring, which carries the inputs from the steering wheel buttons to the non-rotating part of the steering column. I guess it could be an SZL (steering column module) problem, but I haven't seen this issue. The best thing to do is to have the car hooked up to ISTA (BMW's diagnostic system), see whether there are any codes in the SZL or the stereo system, and follow through with the ISTA test plan, if so.
