Hi guys,
I recently purchased Carly glad that I did, but I'm not happy with what its reporting.
I've had issues stating the car recently, sometimes it would start but it takes a while. This issue has progressively gotten worse.
One major issue I discovered was the odometer reading, the car Odometer reads much lower than it actually is. If I'm not mistaking in California this counts as an illegal practice and the dealer has to take the car back. This car was purchased about 2 week
I've copied and past my Carly diagnostic report below

But do you *like* the car? I bout my 08 335 just a couple months ago and it had 10 or stored codes and needed everything so to speak, I'm a DIY'r so it's 10X the car it was back then with the things I have fixed or replaced. Still some projects on the list but a willing owner can accomplish a lot
yes I like the car, cleared the codes and only the starter error popped up.
I just went ahead with a starter replacement since I already purchased it, its working fine. During the replacement I discovered someone spliced the starter wire and ran it to the body to ground it. Why would anyone do that? Also the entire battery hook up in the back of the car was butchered, I will be replacing it.
The red cable in the pic was spliced to the cable that plugs into the starter
Since you've replaced the starter(and it's working fine) I'm pretty confident you have the skilz to tackle most of the issues that may/could arise. As far as why some shadetree would ground the starter to the body?? I've given up on the 'why's' when buying used cars. I've seen so many hack 'fixes' that make zero sense
AJ
The starter worked fine, but the issue persisted. Turns out it was an issue with the computer on the on the steering column. I had to replace the entire steering column which was pretty expensive.
I just removed the wire, no need for it. got it checked completely afterwards no issues except the infamous gasket leak, mainly because the engine sits at an angle.
