Still working out the kinks, but she moved under her own power for the first time this year. I need to align the new electronics that I installed. Still in a limp mode and keeping RPMs below 2200.

First test drive. Drives really nice. =)
Still needs attention to detail obviously, and some more love. (Maybe a wash?) But she has come a long way!

Gave her a bath and took her home. This a very fun car to drive! I still haven't opened it up fully, but it has a very happy tail that I like to see wag.

Texas must not have state inspection. With the mileage this car has on it, there's no way the pads/rotors would have passed a state inspection last year in PA. Waiting on the Hawk pads to arrive.
Suspension feels fine, so I haven't touched that and probably won't for a while. When I do, I'll keep it stock. No need to change this car. Unless anyone knows of someone selling some wider wheels. =)

yeah a lot of states don't have inspection. In Indiana you can drive pretty much anything in any condition on the roads. We only have 2 counties that have emissions and those are the two closest to Chicago.

2010 Cadillac Escalade Luxury (Daily, Pulls my 18' car hauler)
2014 BMW 328d XDrive (Wife's Daily)
Have owned 4 other BWM's I no longer have.
Awesome job. Glad you brought a coupe back to life!
I was curious, so I looked it up. Apparently TX appears to have the same safety and emissions requirement as PA. That is surprising. Regardless..
Car feels new with a fresh set of pads and rotors. Now I can accelerate and decelerate with elegance!
Still have details to work out with the car. ABS is the only light on in the cluster. Haven't looked to see if it's a wheel sensor or the module/pump. Also need to complete the interior. That will come in time.

I have been driving it! There are over 500 miles on the engine since the rebuild. Slowly going up in RPMs. This is the first naturally aspirated S54 I've driven and like how it comes alive in the higher RPM range. Last time out I touched 6000 RPM in third gear. This little car moves pretty good. =)

You could always drive to laguna seca next weekend for the Z corral. They're teasing that the new Z4 (I assume) will make an appearance.
I just HAPPENED to stop by Prussian Motors last Thursday while I was in the area and visiting my friend Mike Yaskin at Bavarian Specialties, just down the street. He sent me over to Bobby at Prussian Motors to take a look at some parts they have while I was in the area. Bobby gave me the nickel tour and I got to see the M Coupe in person! He just casually mentioned "it was a flood car", without delving into the fact that it was completely submerged and what he has gone through to revive it! Nice folks there who know their stuff and have lots and lots and lots of parts cataloged on their shelves and wrapped/protected while they wait for their buyer.
It was nice to meet you and Merritt, Bobby!

It was as well great meeting you Anthony. Let us know if we can help you with your parts needs on your z3 project. I love what you have planned. Funny that another customer in the office was an admirer of yours. Small world apparently! Thank you for the kind words.
z3 related note: Hit 7000 RPM today. =)

Man.. what a job it is to remove the rear interior of this car. I figured while I had it apart, I should replace the rear shocks. I also inspected the rear differential hanger, and it looks brand new. I know this is a problem because I had to seriously reinforce my 500hp ti which has the same set up in the rear. I asked around and most said if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Also, generally my rule of thumb.
20181027_140525.jpg
I'll be doing a little clean up on the interior before installing the silver cars rear interior into this black car.

Wow.. It's finally done. I'm sure there will be some finishing touches, waxing and polishing, wheels/tires etc.. but basically done. Feels pretty special to have almost completely rebuilt an 01 S54 M coupe. Once thing I learn while working on this car is, you must have a lot of patience. There are a few things that really had me scratching my head on why they were done this way. Alas, I'm left with a pretty special car. One where the engine has original matching VIN numbers, but all new bearings, rings, seals and (where important) bolts.
20181106_164754.jpg
20181103_182735.jpg
I thought about doing the differential mount upgrade, but the subframe looks as good as new. So.. I've left it original. I kinda want to keep this car as original as possible anyway.
