    Lseat.com Leather Seat Covers???

    Lseat.com

Are they a new company on the market? $299.00 for a full leather sport seat upholstery kit is almost too good to be true. A bit more if you want a perforated center section.

Anyone have any experience with their product?

Also, Lseat are actual upholstery covers, not clip in covers. $300 sounds to good to be true. Who's gonna take the plunge?

Anyone know if the sedan back seat covers will work on a vert?

The e36 m3 seat covers have the M stripes on them, pretty good attention to detail.

A google for Lseat.com reviews turns up quite a bit of info. Saw an e46 review but don’t have time to sift through it all now.

The rear seats in the verts are different. I also don't see where they advertise a kit for the rear ski pass through option.

Of course I see this advertisement only hours after I order the basket weave material for my custom sport seat re-upholstery project otherwise I would probably have ordered a kit. I am thinking faux vinyl centers with real leather bolsters would not coordinate well.

I read a bunch of reviews from the Landcruiser, Porsche and E46 crowd and for the most part they are nothing but positive. The common negative comment was the color being off and not matching what was depicted on the website. Well, shame on you for not asking for a color swatch to make certain of the color.

My original plan, and one I may revert back to after finding these covers, was to recover my current vinyl black sport seats in a darker tan than the current pearl beige comforts that are in the car now. I would have made sure to ask for a few swatches to make certain the color I ordered was what I was truly looking for.

Thanks for the update. I got an estimate yesterday from a local old-school upholstery shop, two front seats+the shells on the back + rear seats ~$1500. He recommends leather-like vinyl rather than leather, because the leather is stripped so thin these days for suede and is not real durable. Think of thin wood veneer over some other substrate vs. solid wood.

I requested a swatch, I'll let you guys know what I think. I also asked them if they can do cloth for my rallyx ix.

Funny, I asked for a few swatches in brown myself. I am wondering what color, other than black, would look good in my maroon 325e. I am thinking a darker brown with contrasting black bits like the door handles and pockets. The pearl beige is just too light for my taste and if I am going to recover the seats then why not go for a custom color.

I asked about cloth for my rallyx car and they said they don't have cloth, but they do have suede. I guess that's an option.

Well, I guess I just may be the guinea pig. I just order a set of covers for my front sport seats and a matching set for my rear seats. I went with brown which is their darkest brown to replace my current pearl beige. I wanted as dark of a brown as I could get. I was considering a totally black interior like my iX but, with the maroon metallic exterior paint I am thinking the dark brown interior will look classy with the few bits of black trim. The door cards will be dyed/painted to match the new leather.

Call me crazy but, I was also wondering what it would look like if the shifter console, e-brake console, glove box and entire dash were done in the same color. My Porsche Cayman is what started me thinking about this idea. Maybe accented with a wooden steering wheel, shifter knob and E-brake handle. Or too much?

    Opinions welcome...

Total cost was $736.00 including $58.00 shipping to Massachusetts as I opted for the piping option.

I'll let everyone know what I think when they arrive. I, for the experience and the sake of being frugal, would like to install these myself, and maybe I can handle the rear seats, but the front sports will probably be done by a pro. I am thinking they would do a better job and have the expertise to add any batting to make up for any shrinking of the original foam.

Back seats are easy, do them first. Front seats are more difficult but not hard. Just more disassembly. You get tired of those hog ring pliers especially on front as there are many pieces. Make sure you get right and left bolsters parts on right and left bolsters, unlike me. I put Katzkins on mine several years ago, all fit perfect. Good to have a warm area to work in as items stretch better.

So the leather covers arrived and here is my Review.

I placed the order and paid for the seats on November 17th and they arrived today, December 7th, 21 days from order to door.
The only questions I had was to clarify if the rear bottom cover was contoured for the sedan as advertised or a coupe that I needed.

I ordered the darkest brown they sell and I think it is going to come together with my overall intent for the interior. The brown is kind of close to BMW's dark cinnamon brown. I was looking for a dark brown and this is very nice. The color is consistent throughout and there are no blemishes on the seating surfaces. All the stitching looks heavy duty and the lines are straight and parallel.

I am pleased with the quality but, this is my first time redoing seats so I wouldn't necessarily know Napa leather from Lseat.com leather. I can say the thickness is on par with the OEM leather.

I was extremely pleased that they came with the headrest plastic pieces sewn onto the leather. I was expecting to have to hot glue gun my old ones on like I had seen in the YouTube video I posted earlier.

The biggest surprise, and something not shown in their E30 advertisement pictures or description, was the inclusion of two pieces of leather to cover the seat backs. I just assumed that I would have to dye those to match the leather.

The leather is all backed by a foam that is similar to the foam on the back of Mercedes floor mats and not a thick matting like on the OEM covers.

The thin foam backing is on the 2 pieces that cover the seat backs as well and I can't think of any reason it should be there. Anyone ordering these in the future I would advise asking that these two pieces not include the foam.

I am letting the leather warm up and will be attempting the install this weekend.

I spent a few minutes with an exacto knife ripping out the stitching and removing the foam on the pieces that cover the back seat cards. Now I am left with 2 thin pieces of leather just like OEM. I already removed the original leather covering the backing and will be gluing the new leather on.

Finally found some time to get back on this project. I tackled the back seats first thinking these would be easier. The covers fit nicely. I did have to use some vice grip pliers for added grip as I was stretching the cover over the foam.

I only ended up with two creases/wrinkles that I wish were not there but, I have seen other seat covers installed by E30 owners that did not appear to fit as nicely as these. So far I am very happy with them. Now to tackle the more intricate front seats.

I gave the leather a treatment of Leatherique rejuvenator oil while the seats are in where it is warm. I figured it couldn't hurt.

It is difficult to capture the true color of the brown. It looks very similar to the current darker brown in the modern BMWs. More pics to follow as I work on the front seats.

The nice thing about the front seats is that while they are more complex, the individual piece parts are actually a lot simpler. Hopefully you don't need to weld up any of the seat frame tabs. That's *very* common - I generally like to put a bead on them if I have the frame apart.

The driver's seat is all covered. For not ever having done upholstery work before I am pretty happy with the way they turned out. All that I have to do is put the top and back back together. I cleaned up the sliders and am now waiting a couple of days for the paint to dry really well.

The only observation I made is that Lseat could have made the leather on the bottom cushion a couple of inches wider on each side. The original leather wrapped up the sides and over the bottom of the cushion and was stapled in place. The Lseat cover only had enough material to wrap up the side. Luckily the 3M adhesive I used was strong enough to hold the leather in place. Then once installed the hog rings further held everything in place.

I ordered a front sport set for my 98 328ic. I will be posting installation pictures or maybe a youtube video on the results. I replaced the old foams and have bought a used steamer to help with the process. I hope to be able to use the oem hog rings but I could also go the zip tie route if the hog rings are too difficult to install. I did order the sample leather swatch and note that none of the colors matched my dove gray leather exactly so I went with the closest which was the silver gray. This will mean that the rear seats won't be an exact match but this doesn't overly bother me at this point. I can always redo the rears later or spray them to match.

If you have hog ring pliers, they are incredibly easy to install. Don't even think about trying it without them. (Zipties would be miserable.)
