    E39 with LS swap - Brake Light Help

    I swapped an LS3 into my 2001 525iT. It's currently running and reasonably complete but a couple days ago I realized my brake lights weren't working! I never thought to check since I didn't realize I had messed with anything...

    It turns out I had run the brake signal to the GM ECU, which was disturbing the brake pedal signal to the "lighting module". I disconnected it expecting everything to work. But now my brake lights are on all the time!?

    Does anyone have a clue where I should look? I've tried manually tinkering with the pedal sensor (ie. shorting, grounding, etc) with no luck. I don't think I have routed the brake signal to/through anything else so I'm a bit confused. Could it be ABS related?

    My brake lights stay on all the time when the plug is disconnected. You might have a broken wire where the splice was made.

    Silly mistakes. I had wired the brake light to the ECU signal wire as I mentioned. After fixing that, it still didn't function properly. In the end I started interrogating the brake sensor pins to determine what is missing and it didn't have power. Turns out I blew the fuse somewhere along the way,which was the first thing I checked! Anyway, new fuse and it works fine. I'm really not sure when the fuse blew or if I inadvertently fixed something else, but it works now.
