    Calling all e70 4.8l x5er's I can't figure this trouble code

07 X5 4.8l w/49k mi with trouble codes, p3203/p1039/p1036. Real strange cause when I reset the code, the car drives fine. But after a good few miles of driving, car starts to hesitate upon acceleration. It's drivable but you must be real gentle on the accelerator. When all this happens, the check light comes on at the next startup and there you have those codes from above. Funny, I've been having to drive with a scanner next to me. This seems to happen particularly on a hot day. There were a couple of instances where my car was just idling there for a few minutes and suddenly it jerked real hard, and you could also see the rpms fluctuate a little. It even died out on me once in the middle of an intersection. But I've researched and researched and some say it could be the ecu, but others say to replace the o2's or to clean out maf. So far I've cleaned out the maf with no positive results, and I've also replaced the post-cat o2's just last week, no go either. I'm wondering if I should also replace the pre-cat o2's. Interesting too, when I put in the new post-cat o2's, I was able to drive it further before the problem came back again.

    What should I do guys?

Can't find anything about a P3203 OBD II code...it doesn't follow the nomenclature for the 1996 OBD II federal mandate in regards to OBD II DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes). Double check to make sure it's correct....or perhaps its a manufacturer code or a code specific to the brand of reader you used. Also check back on the thread you started on Xoutpost's e53 forum...another member added some info that may be helpful.

I believe the 3203 is a manufacturer code but what difference does that make? I think this code triggers the other two. Maybe it is in fact the nox sensors as BMW seems to have a few issues with them. I could try arguing that point with BMW since they do offer 10yr, 100k warranty on their nox sensors on diesel x5's, and mine is a 07 4.8 with only 49k miles on it. But thanks man, I appreciate it. Going to need all the help that I could find because this one's a real challenge.

I'd suggest scanning the car with a BMW specific tool instead of a generic code reader. The BMW specific codes will actually give you useable info to help diagnose what is going on. My go to is the Schwaben BMW Scan Tool (LINK), it's going to allow you to scan each individual module and pull the actual BMW specific codes instead of generic powertrain codes. If you prefer an app/phone style interface Carista, Carly, OBDFusion, etc are all fantastic options, just make sure you get a quality dongle (LINK to one we offer).
