Wow! I'd better get busy if I'm going to have this sucker fully running in April lol... Looks like an engine pull will be a big benefit for this project.
I wonder if dburt fit the TH400 in the tunnel more easily because he had the trans sitting a little farther forward than it does when it gets installed behind the stock placed bimmer 6 and adapter plate?
I had the same issue with the trans pan interfering with the frame rail, but to get a good pinion angel, my motor/trans had to be pointed down anyways so the pan edge went underneath it barely.
But i cant imagine there needed to be that much bashing on the tunnel. Thats crazy. Mine was tight in that area to the point i used an allen type bolt so i can use a ball allen driver, but i was able to get the bolt in and out with out and bashing at all.

The passenger side allows for more clearance than the driver side, not sure why.
I'm trying to ad more pics , send a few more to baby girl ,
She should have em up soon lol.

Well good thing we are talking about 20 year old base model german cars and not something that is actually valuable or desirable LOL

They never look pretty In this phase lol.
I thought about cutting out the area I hammered in and welding in some sheet metal. The last thing I'm worried about is how a portion of non visible tunnel looks.
The 400 fits...

The glide fits nicely into the e36 tunnel with a little "massaging". I'm not currently using Perry's adapter plate setup but plan on using one in the future once my rich uncle gets outta the poor house. As far as the downpipe goes there's plenty of room wether top mount or bottom mount. I used to run a full 3.5" exhaust with the glide

Perry,
Most people will run a 1350 on the trans output, but that leaves us with a connection issue to the BMW diffs.
Would you be interested in either adding a 6 bolt / 4 bolt to U joint adapter flange either as part of the kit, or as a stand alone product? Most people adapting non-BMW transmissions would be able to benefit from this.
I have a 4-bolt diff sitting. Can probably get you some dimensions today if you want. It would be cool to have a 1350 flange.
My previous plan was to run the 1310 one from jagsthatrun.com or maybe see if I could find a spicer one that would fit the 4-bolt diff flange.
http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Par...ft-flange.html
I could send you a 6 bolt later this winter.
It's pretty much the same flange for the E46 M3 and the E46 Non-M. The only difference seems to be that the scalloping of the flange on the M3 is shallower.....
I don't know that the Jagsthatrun flange is available anymore.
That's a pain!
On first (halfassed) look with some digital calipers, a dana spicer 2-2-1679 looks to be fairly close in a 1310 series for the 4-bolt. Nothing in 1350 looks close in the catalog. I'll take some more careful measurements later in the day.
A guy on the E39 forum says that there is a u-joint yoke that fits the 540 pinion splines, but I'm pretty confident that it couldn't be as easy as BMW using a similar pinion setup for the E36s...
I had CNC buddy make some parts for Colby, contact him, or switch to 6 bolt (which I recommend) and then have someone cobble together a part, easy peasy. Also CES or Eric at RallyRoad know of a spicer part that is close and workable....
Does it look like a standard Dana Spicer part to you? I would feel dumber than normal if I found out I paid double the going rate for that part because I was too lazy to look around a little bit... I'll probably make a couple of calls on Monday.
I know I'm taking too long to get all of my good stuff online, but some things are already in version 3.0 to get perfection.
Dont know about the 3 series spline, but 5 series conversion yoke looks like this spicer unit.
And tptrsn, if the machine shop can run an end mill down on the nut face and match the thickness of the original yoke, then yes you could swap by tightening to the original nut location. 20180120_124029.jpg20180120_124110.jpg
But my rearends are apart, so I'm going with the bearing preload method .
The seal will need a matchup from the catalog as inner diameter is smaller.
Exterior diameter of the spline could stand a polish to get the diameter down a couple thousand, but it slides on halfway by hand.

Everything, or the yoke?
Yoke is from a mid 90's Grand Cherokee transfer case to the front driveshaft. This is a correction as it has been so long since I harvested that part, all I remembered was front driveshaft.
These are my first posts in FI and I doubt anyone is aware of what I'm working on. I should probably start a thread and introduce myself.

I have a flange you can reverse engineer. It mounts a Spicer 1350 yoke (spicer part # 3-2-119) to a BMW 6 bolt flange. The flange is located within the BMW flange using a male pilot and also has a female pilot for the spicer yoke. I am in MN, twin cities area (though currently out of town until next Sunday) and can lend it to you to copy. I used this with an E34 M5 diff in my LS E39.
