I am juggling deer hunting work and family this week so its a bit hectic. Tptrsn is getting the first, Das Boost is getting the 2nd, 4 other people PM'd me saying they probably want one. I am going to wait until Either Tptrsn or Das Boost get there's installed just to be 100% certain all is good before shipping any more. If you PM me your email I can send you the install instructions I made to give you an idea of how it goes together. I will try to post some pictures later, there are a bunch in Dburts thread.
I don't know yet if I'll be able to immediately move ahead with full force on the install, but I'm damn excited, so I can't rule it out!
The instructions look fantastic, BTW. Easily the best I've seen for an item of this type (meaning performance automotive stuff).
Are these trans good for 1/4 mile only? or would one benefit from roll racing?

I would bet 100 bucks that you would go faster and more consistently but not by a whole lot. The biggest benefits would be that you would no longer have traction problems and you would stop breaking transmissions. A good torque converter these days in a drag application only has mabey 2-5% slip going through the traps. They do eat up more power parasitically but in actual practice you gain more back by never having the power uncoupled by using a clutch on upshifts, and also your not losing boost during shifts. I know when I look at a datalog of my passes its supprizing to me how much time during a pass I'm not putting down power, and recovering boost after a shift. The faster the car goes the more significant this becomes. A half second gear change and a half second to get back to 30 lbs of boost 3 times in a 9 second pass is 1/3rd of the pass that's either applying no power to the tires or less than maximum. The same is going to be true of roll racing depending on how many gears you use. The other benefit is you'll be able to also race the car from a dig without worrying about tearing everything up in the back, so it would open up alot of other uses for the car.

Well how many gears are you going through Anthony?

I've seen lots of drag guys go from stick to auto and I've never seen anyone loose trap speed from it in a decently powerful car.
Yea but if anthony puts an auto in it, he probably would do more drag racing lol

The drop in boost on gear change was the original reason I wanted to use an automatic transmission. In 2010, when I sent the OEM BMW trans out to be rebuilt by IPT, I was told that it could handle 600hp. As you all know, that transmission didn't handle 400hp after a lot of work, but that doesn't mean the problem just disappeared for me. On my last trip to the drag strip, I came to the realization that off-throttle shifts were not going to get me where I wanted to go. I was using a GTX30 turbo AND Nitrous for gosh sakes...and I still had a pretty gnarly boost drop between gears. Now with the GTX40 on the car....I expect the issue to be worse!
TH400 is looking mighty tasty....

A stick is good fun and all but I think I've proven I can move my left foot and right arm at the same time. Time to go fast now.

I have my adapter setup in hand, and it is some extremely high quality equipment!! VERY impressed!
I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, because I firmly believe in personal preference. Personally for myself, my tune has changed on this topic over the past couple or few years. Lately I see nothing terribly wrong with automatics and corners (such as my red sh*tbox car in my sig). An absolute blast in the corners!
The converter I'm going to be using initially with the TH400 probably has a bit more stall speed than the factory one in the car, so I am really excited to see what that is like for hooning around. I'm guessing I'll like it, but you never really know until you try it.

I'm sure this ADAPTER is worth EVERY PENNY.
The gift that keeps on giving...while others are towing from the 1320.
Roll into the start at 60mph which is around 3500 rpm in 3rd, end the 1600ft just getting into 5th.
Drag raced in my teens and early 20s until they closed up the track here 20 years ago. Since then I like to go faster and further than 1320 ft lol

See shifts take like 0.3 seconds maybe so on your roll race your adding 0.6s for shifting. If you were just topping out 4th it would be important. My 6870 recovers fast, but i dont have data on how long it takes... the auto is going to give up 1-150whp pretty easy..
Its a lot different than 5 shifts in a 9 second run.
I don't know id be interested to see back to back data.. just thinking it through here.
Someguy knows more..

I can post up some data on shift recovery with no lift shift and a little turbo. I could compare that against some dburts auto data but you're gonna save a ton of time on shifts.
I'm usually around 350 ms on the 1-2 or 3-4 and 450 ms for the 2-3. So there's lots of time to be gained there.
But I would bet money the auto would rip for roll racing. You've got losses spinning the converter and generating heat, but you spend a lot more time at each rpm point so your average power/ total work output will be higher.
