    MA Shaw Widebody Resurrection

After a season of tracking a car with a bolt in half cage I wanted to add safety to my track program so I could push 110%. Pete the owner of AutoSport Fabrication in Plainville CT had an old Turner Motorsport built race car tub waiting to be re-built.

After a few months of going back and forth I decided to take the plunge and teamed up with Pete and the guys for a winter project. With their help we're going to breath new life into the old GTS5 MA Shaw widebody E36 M3 and build it into a competitive GTS2 & GTS3 NASA race car.

We started by cutting the nose off a straight and unhit parts car and the next step will be grafting the front frame rails onto the widebody shell.

More pics to follow as we make progress

This is gonna be sick; Pete does beautiful work!!! GTS 2 seems to be immersed a bit of a tire size war at the moment, what size Hoosiers do you think you'll be able to fit under the thing?

Any chance you know what wheels (or at least wheel specs) they were running with the widebody?

Ohhh I remember that car. It was always a beautiful car. Was the crash at the Glen?

Best of luck with the rebuild and figuring out the suspension components that will work well with the wide body.

The car is / was setup to fit 18x11 front and 18x12 rear wheels with monstrous hoosiers. I don't think I'm going to need quite that much meat in GTS2 but its nice to know that if I want to go up a few classes as I get more experience I have that option without needing to do crazy bodywork.

Thank you and Pete says you are correct the car did crash at the Glen.

What a crazy small world the racing community is!

Yeah if I'm remembering correctly I watched it crash on turn 6, the downhill into the laces of the boot.

    Keep us posted on updates.

Kyle, the crudbuster, and the curse of the dakar yellow

Pete maintains that dakar yellow race cars are cursed but Kyle and I aren't scared plus the car is only part yellow!

MA Shaw fiberglass doors are back on and work on the shell has begun. The guys have determined that the shell is straight and x s out from the strut towers back and we're thinking we can cut like so

    Update time:

The front donor frame rails have been prepped and are ready to be welded onto the shell which has been cut back to only retain straight sheet metal. The frame rails will sleeve over an insert the guys made which is riveted on for now and will be drilled out and welded once everything is properly lined up. From there its onto suspension sub frames control arms and all that good stuff.

Pete also dug up some more pictures of the car back in the glory days!

The nose is on and everything is lining up well!

The MA Shaw bumper and one fender still need to be ordered so don't mind the narrow body front end

Slowly making progress here. The car is now a roller and the front end has arrived from MA Shaw. Lots more work to do!

Agreed - would love to see the wide body. It's everything my car wants to be but can't!
