    Odometer "tamper dots"

I am in the midst of swapping an S54 into a 2001 325i Touring. The donor car has about 130k miles, while the odo in the wagon shows 190K. The S54 is complete with all harnesses and the M3 DME.

    1) Will this trigger a "tamper dot" on the wagon's odometer?
    2) If this happens, is there a method of programming that out?

Ultimately, this doesn't matter all that much as there is a paper trail, and the next owner probably won't care. Just curious.

No it will not. Only a VIN mismatch between cluster and LCM/EWS will trigger a tamper dot. DME mileage would not matter.

And yes there are (more complicated) ways to program cluster correctly IF you ever get a tamper dot.

I agree with ^^^, would just delete EWS on the S54 DME.
    S54 swap DME flashing - $100
S54 swap CAN interface board (for proper A/C & check engine light) - $275
e36 SAP sim/secondary air pump simulator:
    $75 - standard or $170 - plug & play
    e36 post-cat O2 sims: $115 shipped, plug & play

Understood. HOWEVER, the idea of that level of theft deterrent being turned off is not wonderful. Just sayin'.

You will still get some level of theft deterrent by leaving the EWS in place - the car will not crank without the matching key.

It is also possible to "virginize" the DME and sync it with the chassis EWS.

It's not like you'll be advertising that EWS is defeated. The fact that an M3 is 99% likely to have an immobilizer is enough to stop most would be thieves from targeting that car.

Also of note, if a thief really wanted, they could defeat EWS themselves and hotwire it anyway.

Hey Gpeterson hows the S54 cluster swap coming along?

also to go along with this, if we do swap in the S54 cluster.. can the mileage be changed to reflect chasis mileage? My e36 has 163,500 miles and the cluster i picked up has 180k+... would like to have to changed..if possible

I'm still working on the cluster swap hardware, but yes - I can change the mileage/VIN/etc on the E46 clusters.
