I'm hoping to get some advice on how best to approach this. My engine was replaced while in warranty a couple years ago. Now that it's out of warranty, I'm doing the repairs myself. I noticed something odd when attempting to replace a temperature sensor. The sensor that's specified for my vin number is different than the sensor in my car. after looking a bit deeper, i realized that the sensor in my car was used in the 2010 E90 and is again being used in the newer 535i, X5, and X6. after realizing this I searched for the engine serial and part number and found that it is the N55B30A Engine.... my vehicle was originally assembled with the N55B30M0. i understand that it's the same engine block but I'm realizing that some of the components are different. It's kind of annoying to think how confusing it may be when it comes to purchasing parts. Is this something that i have to live with? It doesn't seem right that the engine part number is no longer related to my VIN. I'd appreciate any advice on how to best approach this.
Never mind. i just learned that there are two water/oil temp sensors on the engine. One is on the block and the other is on the cylinder head. They are different sensors.
....for the record... BMW installed the correct engine.
